"An avid reader". :)

I enjoy fantasy, speculative fiction (esp post-apocalyptic), scifi, young adult, and a wide swatch of nonfiction.

I'm always interested in a book recommendation!

thought I would pass on a couple of suggestions, a great Post-Apocalyptic tale would be DINNER AT DEVIANTS PALACE by Tim Powers, and an interesting Fantasy novel by Nero Wolfe is Castleview

hi - i guess i think of myself as an introverted detail-oriented librarian type :). so i am active here - but mostly engage in solitary tasks: aside from my continuing effort to add every single book i've ever read to my shelf (i only got started a month ago, so i'm not close to done), i spend my time here editing out the many & varied mistakes in book records, spying on others' shelves for continued reading inspiration, and occasionally exchanging reading recommendations with friends...

which reminds me: i saw in your review of janet elizabeth mcnaughton's "the secret under my skin" that you were wishing/hoping for a sequel. one was actually published a few years ago - it's titled "the raintree rebellion". (i haven't read it yet, so i can't sound off on it.)

Have you tried The Sad Tale Of The Brothers Grossbart by Jesse Bullington? It isn't for the squeamish, but it is a gruesomely funny fantasy to read: heavy on the gruesome, though.

thanks for the great response on Kushiel's Dart. I think you are right about the content. Several others have said the same thing. I think I'll pass on this one!

Hi, You just asked me about 'A long way gone' and I replied to your question but I see most of the books on your shelf are kid's books. I just wanted to let you know that, don't read it if you're not at least 18 yrs old. The violence in that book is pretty gruesome. BTW you're quite a reader!! 1299 books on your shelf? Wow I'm impressed!!!

Thanks for the friendship. We have some stuff in common, mostly sci-fi, and that's pretty cool. I've read some Dave Barry, too, particularly his novels. They're remarkably like his friend, Carl Hiaasen, whom I heartily recommend.

Yes, Do read The Secret Life of Bees. It was very interesting. I tried to finish it before the movie came out, but I'll be checking the movie out from Blockbuster. The story takes you back to 60's (I think) in the south of the U.S. Do read and enjoy.

Maybe I am a bit twisted, but I LOVED Choke! The movie was also fairly accurate in sticking to the book. There's something morbid and dark about Chuck.. like he touches all those sick, dark thoughts that maybe we all have pondered, but would never dare utter out loud!

If you haven't read Impossible by Nancy Werlin, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, and Unwind by Neil Schusterman, you need to try them! They are all YA, relatively quick to read, and generating big buzz with students, teachers, and librarians! I was very impressed with all 3 titles. I've been reading a ton of books lately, and have just been extremely lucky--all my picks have been good ones so far!

I was going to suggest East by Edith Patou--a retelling of Beauty and the Beast. It's usually in the YA section of the library. Also Straw into Gold is a twist on Rumpelstilskin. Gary Schmidt is the author, and again, it's YA. You might enjoy both...
