thanks for the great response on Kushiel's Dart. I think you are right about the content. Several others have said the same thing. I think I'll pass on this one!

Hi, You just asked me about 'A long way gone' and I replied to your question but I see most of the books on your shelf are kid's books. I just wanted to let you know that, don't read it if you're not at least 18 yrs old. The violence in that book is pretty gruesome. BTW you're quite a reader!! 1299 books on your shelf? Wow I'm impressed!!!

Thanks for the friendship. We have some stuff in common, mostly sci-fi, and that's pretty cool. I've read some Dave Barry, too, particularly his novels. They're remarkably like his friend, Carl Hiaasen, whom I heartily recommend.

Yes, Do read The Secret Life of Bees. It was very interesting. I tried to finish it before the movie came out, but I'll be checking the movie out from Blockbuster. The story takes you back to 60's (I think) in the south of the U.S. Do read and enjoy.

Maybe I am a bit twisted, but I LOVED Choke! The movie was also fairly accurate in sticking to the book. There's something morbid and dark about Chuck.. like he touches all those sick, dark thoughts that maybe we all have pondered, but would never dare utter out loud!

If you haven't read Impossible by Nancy Werlin, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, and Unwind by Neil Schusterman, you need to try them! They are all YA, relatively quick to read, and generating big buzz with students, teachers, and librarians! I was very impressed with all 3 titles. I've been reading a ton of books lately, and have just been extremely lucky--all my picks have been good ones so far!

I was going to suggest East by Edith Patou--a retelling of Beauty and the Beast. It's usually in the YA section of the library. Also Straw into Gold is a twist on Rumpelstilskin. Gary Schmidt is the author, and again, it's YA. You might enjoy both...

I just finished grad school this summer, so I feel your pain! I was noticing a lot of good children's books on your shelf and thought I'd recommend some young adult titles to you that you might enjoy--The Lightning Thief series (4 books) by Rick Riordan is kind of a Harry Potter with Greek mythology story--really hot right now. The Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer (4 books total) is also huge right now (I noticed the Buffy essay collection on the shelf). It's a vampire love story--nothing gory, just a fun read. I'm working on the Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo (children's book) right now, and I think it's destined to be a classic--very much like Velveteen Rabbit. Anyway, just a few ideas...

When you go to your shelf, at the top there is a choice that says: List review...go in there and you will see your books and boxes to check and spaces to fill in information, BUT...the words you put in aren't always there when you save your review.

I love this site, but it is a little difficult to maneuver around in.

I have gotten so many good book ideas.

Good luck with your studies and in your posting.

Given that most of my library currently resides in a 10x10 foot cubicle, a couple of weeks might verge on being a wee bit uncomfortable. Thanks for the kind words, though, and remember that grad school isn't forever (except of course in my case, but that's another story).
