Hi, just read your review of Mosquito Coast. Your assessment was very accurate. I finished this book only yesterday! It is very refreshing to see someone on here who has actually read the books on her shelf and is able to talk about them. I also like to add little reviews to the books I have read. Anyway, I hope you don't mind adding me as your friend on shelfari.
I realy enjoyed looking at your shelf and finding more books I would lke to read. I too am a fan of bees.
December nominations are up at the Good Reads Group Site. Make sure to vote!
You've been pegged as a future members of the brilliant babes! Sorry it took so long. I've been kind of out of it. (The reason is on my profile.)If I don't invite you immediately after you accept my friendship offer, don't worry--I will invite!
I see we both enjoyed Karel Capek's 'War With the Newts'. Your name sounds familiar to me. Could we have been on a Yahoo Groups fantasy list together?I agree with your statement about reviews. Since I love to read thoughtful and well-written reviews by others, I'm diligently working on mine and hope to eventually comment on all my books, even though the ones I read years ago may be more challenging. I haven't tried any of Anthony Bourdain's books, but I'm a big fan of show!
Thanks for the kind words. I, too, try to get some kind of review (even if it's just a one-liner) up for as many of my shelf books as possible. I appreciate your recommendation of All the Names; I have added it to my wish list, along with a couple of your other Top10s.
Thank for the note... I heart Tom Robbins. His stories are completely bizarre yet wholly coherent. I do not know another author - except for Rushdie or Marquez (maybe) - who spins such amazing lyrics using words as the instrument. He once described Debra Winger's voice as it "sounds as though it was strained through the honeymoon sheets of Bogey and Bacall and then hosed down with plum brandy." Can't you just hear it?
Voting is now taking place in GOOD READS for our November book of the month. Stop by and vote and/or discuss in to be placed in a drawer to be our next person to nominate!
Thanks! I'm glad to know you appreciated it. Do tell me what you think of White Chickens and Fountain when you read them.
Oh, I'll have to agree with you on that. I never liked Bratislava either. It's just full of people who think too much of themselves and show off their money. As you say, central Slovakia si a lot nicer. I love it, all the forests and hills surrounding the towns.. aah, now I want to go home!... Hope you enjoy your next trip to Slovakia...
That is amazing! I was an exchange student myself 3 years ago but in Ontario in Canada and I loved it. And zmrzlina is always one of the best words to give English people to say, because it's just so hard to pronounce that many consonants together for them. And which town was your exchange student from? I'm from Banska Bystrica., right in the middle of the country...
hi! DiscWorld is definitely the best series ever. Can I have a question though? it says you're from Pittsburgh but where did you come up with your nickaname? zmrzlina is a slovak word for ice cream what i'm sure you know:) have a nice dayKristina
