    Extremely sorry for the delay in reply. I agree with what you said about The Palace of Dreams. The brevity of the novel is just right, otherwise it would have been superfluous. Kafka, though powerful and evocative is rather morbid which Kadare is not. Like you, I would also place it above Orwell's 1984. I have become somewhat addicted to Kadare... looking forward to reading more from him.

    Este, într-adevăr, o carte excelentă! Mi-a plăcut extrem de mult - nici nu îmi vine să cred că o aveam în bibliotecă şi că nu mă atinsesem de ea până acum!

    ...vad ca ai terminat Adela? si eu i-as da acum 3 stele, dar la momentul cand am terminat-o am simtit foarte tare ca am plictisiese, desi e nedrept, e o carte frumoasa si chiar deosebita, in felul ei. M-am apucat de recitit Adela pentru un curs favorit, cu Paul Cernat -poate ai mai citit cate ceva de el prin Romania Literara, (chit ca atunci cand am aflat ca o sa-l am prof eu nu citisem nimic de el, dar ideea e ca e un tip foarte inteligent, si un profesor bun, intr-un cuvant, e 'meserias' omu) si cursul e foarte interesant, "Modernismul-Retro in literatura romana interbelica' , in care discutam carti care la baza au o formula narativa moderna, chiar ultramoderna, si un continut, coduri, psihologie, de sfarsit de secol XIX... sunt toate romane minunate, nostalgice, paseiste, 'de atmosfera...' . In afara de 'Adela' am mai discutat pana acum 'Craii...' si 'La Medeleni' :-)). ...e prima oara cand sunt chiar bucuroasa ca's la litere. :-))
    ce dragut, si eu planuiesc sa citesc Colette, cu speranta naiva ca o sa am timp sa citesc in original. uite ca incepem prin a fi amice intru Ibraileanu! e un inceput bun :-P
