Dear friend,You can join us on "Dawkinism" groupRegards
OK my friend checked and it was there all along but it was in a drawer so it was taken out of the drawer and should be on a desk there waiting for you. Please check to see if it's there and let me know!
Yikes I think there has been a mix up -- my friend Ms. Morris left the book at the Med Sci library for you. At least I think she did! Did you check there for it?
Funny you wrote me b/c just today I thought of you; I had to go to Ward 16 to visit a friend whose son has pneumonia, and I drove past the medical library and thought, HEY! I wonder what ever happened to... so we must have been thinking of each other the same time. Are you working at the hospital? So you haven't gotten the book yet? I'm dying to hear what you think of it!
Hey you! Long time no speak. I recently finished "Till We Have Faces". It was a great read. I was shocked to see how the course of events changed in part 2 of the book. Definitely a good read. Thanks for the recommendation. How have ya been? What are you reading?
Hey Ryan..You had a b/day recently?Happy birthday to youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu:))))))I have been so busy lately with work and my writing projects, and as a result Shelfari went to the back burner. matter of fact all my sites have been neglected. Sigh!! I think I may have lost some friends and some cool connections!! What to do?Ah Well!!! Today is the start of something new and wonderful...True?
Ryan, thats a nice name. Little King, it means. Are you a little king?Anyhoo, I'm sure you're great at your job and if I'm ever sick in Jamaica, I know whom to visit. ;o)Was your Birthday yesterday? If so, Happy Belated B-Day!! How did you celebrate?I checked out "Till We Have Faces" the other day. Let me just say, CS Lewis is very popular at my library. when I got to his scetion, there were nothing but empty shelves--everything was checked out. I thought I'd never get my hands on a copy of the book. I couldn't find it at first and immediately got frustrated. So I began shelf browsing through the collection...pass collections of essays, the screwtapes letters and other publications...and after about 10 minutes of leafing through books and reading the back covers, I glimpsed it--in a crack between two shelves laid flat on top of the Chronicles of Narnia. Dog eared and faded--clearly someone loves this book. Perhaps, I will too. I will begin reading tonight. How's that for serendipity?! :o)
Thanks! For accepting my invite :) I'm a big C.S. Lewis fan and The Chronicles of Narnia are my favorite :)
hi, Ryan...you're welcome to join the BBs...just accept the friend request and I'll see you get an invite...soquel (rob)
Hi YarroyosThanks for the note. Re P.G. Wodehouse: this used to be my absolute favourite, I think I have almost everything he has written - and that is a lot! I think you would either love him or hate him. He writes in a beautiful prose full of nice images and literary quotes with a silly schoolboyish twist. Simple stories, pretty farcical, often about upper class English young men and women. His series featuring Jeeves is very well known (Jeeves always saves his young master Bertie Wooster from trouble - but not always in the easiest ways). Blandings Castle is another favourite subject, with the Earl of Emsworth and his favourite pig, the Empress of Blandings at the heart of many an adventure. "Ripping yarns", you might call them. I used to reread the books every time things were not going well in my life (i.e. aunt diagnosed with cancer, father had a stroke). Nowadays Pratchett's book have taken over the function of soothing and uplifting me in troublesome times. If you can find one Wodehouse book, have a look, if you do not like the style: they are all pretty similar. All the best
When I was first learning to read (unhappily) I enjoyed Lewis's Narnia series and cracked open Lord of the Rings for good measure, but was not as impressed with LOTR. The Narnia series sparked my imagination far more deeply. A few years laterI found myself seeking something of Lewis's philosophies again but at a more adult level, and soon after discovery I began consuming his essays. The fantasy element was gone, the writing was more plain and depressingly un-sugar-coated, but the core material was there in much more definite outline. Recently I picked up Out of a Silent Planet and Perilandria and enjoyed much of the ideas in those as well. I think The Pilgrim's Regress and the Screwtape Letters are still my favorites. Some of the essays blend together for me, but I believe there is a perfect truth in all of them, and an earnest effort even in parts I don't believe. Much like Any Rand's work, everyone brings a little bit of personal interpretation to Lewis's writings, and I think he may have been smart enough to have intended that. Either way, he's been a very strong role model of personal philosophy. Not that I agree with everything he has written but of what I do agree with I very much appreciate that he said it.
I am also a C.S. Lewis junkie. Sometimes I read him to go to bed at night, and no, not because it's boring... because it's incredibly thoughtful, good stuff.
Ahh, a medical intern. Thats really cool. Do you like it? I don't think I could ever hack it in the medical field. I'm actually finishing up my last library science courses this week, so Friday (your B-Day, I believe) I will officially be done--if everything goes as planned. So, I'll start job searching next week. I'd really like to work in another country though. I've never left the states, so it'd be nice to see someplace new. And I understand about your "mind swings". I have them too--especially lately. I dunno...Like Sam Cook said "A Change Gone Come"...and I can feel it. I guess I'd better brace myself. My name is Aliah by the way. Whats yours?
No problem on the friend request. You seem like a really cool person. I browsed through your shelf--you have a very unique taste in books. I like that, ;o) I'm going to check out the book you recommended from the library tomorrow. I've been caught up reading "Zen and the Art of Happiness" which was really good. But I'm all done now so "Till We Have Faces" is all mine. It seems like it will be a good read. Anyhoo, enough about me. What are you up to? Hows life? What are you reading?
Hey there. How is everything? Nope, I didn't coin the term nappturality, but I do like it a lot. Its actually a website for people with natural hair (locs and fros alike). I'm not Jamaican but I've been mistaken for one on quite a few occassions. I've never been to Jamaica but I'd like to go on a cruise to the Cayman Islands and Jamiaca next summer. I've heard its beautiful. You're a Leo? I've got to drop by your page and wish you a Happy B-Day on Friday. And I will go check out the book you recommended tomorrow. I've never read anything by CS Lewis before (although I loved th Narnia movie). Now I'm off to check out your shelf....Take care, thanks for dropping by and I hope to hear from you soon. :o)
Hey Ryan, wassup? I havent read that book you mentioned. I shall look into it. So under the deadlines here at work. Gosh!! it seems as if I need extra hours for all my other activities. I will let you know when I have a copy of the book. Ciaobella Ryan. :))
Over in the India group we are now discussing what book to do for the September group read. We'll source and read the book in August and begin discussing 1 Sept. Please weigh in on the discussion!I was thinking -- I could read the book that's chosen and then leave it somewhere on campus for you to read, if you can't source it otherwise. If I don't have it I'll order it online.
Cereus Blooms at Night is one of my favourite books of all time. You MUST read it. The one after He Drown She in the Sea is awful though, so just read Cereus.
They are called Frangipani. I adore them. I would put my picture, but I do not wish to alarm the community. Enjoy the flower. lolll
Thanks for responding. I am looking for something decent to put in the phot frame. Bear with me..:)))I have read most of C.S.Lewis' works. I started in my early teens with the screw Tape Letters. I have had to re read that a couple times at different stages of my life. Well we chat more later.Rhys.
