i picked up dreams from my father (by the PRESIDENT) at the library today. i was in the hold queue since the fall! at night, i've been reading one or two chapters from don't sweat the small stuff. :)
It'a a good book--straight to the point about the alienation African American kids feel in America--particularly those from affluent homes. As a psychotherapist and mother of 3 I found this an interesting and helpful read.anjuellehttp://anjuellefloyd.comImagination is the key to freedom. The artist's job is to cultivate and nurture her or his imagination, and that of others.
Hi! I am having a pretty good weekend. I had Friday off and started doing some yard work. In FL this is the time to plant some cool weather plants. Plus the weeds had about taken over with all the rain! Then on Saturday, I continued the effort and put down some mulch. Wow, are my muscles aching today. Not too much reading happening this weekend though because I also had to put in a few hours of work on Saturday (after cleaning off the garden dirt) and I've got to go in today for about 4 hours too. :-( I'll be looking for some time off at the end of this week I think so I can chill with my books. I have been putting some time into organizing my shelf and adding some more (OMG) to my TBR which is just huge! I also changed my Avatar. This is my youngest grandson trying to tote a pumpkin that weighs almost as much as him. I needed a fall/halloween type picture so this looked good to me!Hope your weekend is good too. Let me add a quick book recommendation - Barbara Kingsolver's Prodigal Summer. I listened to it and was so sorry when it ended. Great Book! I was not a big fan of Poisonwood Bible; didn't hate it but I loved Bean Trees and Pigs in Heaven and Bible was quite different. Summer was back to what I like most about Kingsolver's writing. If you try it, let me know what you think.
thank you and you also!
Far out. I don't mind being stalked by you. :)
I saw my note below (about the Kite Runner and a Bin Laden book) and it looks like I sent you a note I meant to send to someone else. Asking about your sister, etc. Sorry! you must think I'm a nut!
they are great to read in order too because there are constant changes in Kinsey's life. nice to see people are still discovering her!
I see you are reading the first of the Kinsey Milhone books - A is for Alibi. I've really enjoyed the series although I haven't kept up lately - I think I'm on N is for Noose (at least I thnk that's the title for N)
Ah - I see a comment about Poisonwood Bible that I didn't see when I replied (below). Did I answer a community query? It disappears after your reply and you never know what the response is sometimes! You asked about my favorite author - often it is the one I'm read at the moment you ask - I guess I'm fickle in that way. I have way too many favorite authors but just check my shelf of favorites and you'll see what I mean. There's over 60 of them!
I received your request. I like to know a little about people who think I would be a good friend :-) Tell me how you "found" me and what appealed to you. You don't have a profile so the only thing I know is that you live in TN. So did my brother until about 6 months ago.
well for very light, cozy reading i started with the 1st lillian jackson braun "cat who" books and have read those. stay in order. they are very fun to pick up any time you need something light. i haven't read the last 2 because i've heard they are problematic and i don't want my bubble busted. hmmmm flannery o'connor, early john irving, this is very hard. besides lamott and kingsolver there aren't a lot of authors i read most everything by. i loved, loved The Time Travelers Wife. my shelf tells a lot.
i just finished the Harry Potter series, and now i'm onto the grown-up, odd Specimen Days by Michael Cunningham (author of The Hours). i have to say, i love being a "reader" again.
are you off friday, or just up late?
how can you tell? :) and yes, my dear, we need to talk about lots of things. :) there are good and interesting times to be had between us, i think. :)
I've only read the one Dekker book (Adam), but it was a definite thriller. You people who can read two books simultaneously amaze me! :)
You still up? I'm being kind of schizophrenic in my reading -- "For the Love of a Child" I think is the one I'm almost finished with. Written by Betty Mahmoody, whose experiences were told in the book "Not Without My Daughter". Sally Field and Alfred Molina were in the movie. i'm interested in womens' and childrens' rights in situations like these, and like those people inf the FLDS raid. I'm so disappointed that the court has decided the state did not have a right to take the children away from their families, because I feel very strongly that there truly is something to fear there. But on to bigger and better things. When can we get together? :)
I have never read heaven's wager, but Thr3e is a phenomenal book, and i have talked to people who have read heaven's wager, and they said Thr3e was better. But House does not really reflect Dekker's style of writing, or even Frank Peretti's but it is still a good book. But anyway, hands down read thr3e first.
oh by the way, and so does barbara kingsolver. i've read and loved all her books. especially Animal Dreams and Prodigal Summer. Poisonwood is really good.
thanks for the add. yes, anne lamott rules!!
