“fabulous oral history of thie grim naval air war in the Pacific. Highly recommended. Excellent new insight and information, for me at least, on major battles (Midway, Santa Cruz, etc.). We for get how tenuous our presence was in this theater. In late 1942, for example, we were down to ONE carrier, the Enterprise, after losing the Wasp, Yorktown, Hornet and another. Astor has fortunately obtained first hand accounts from the survivors, who will shortly no longer be with us.”
