I was lucky to have grown up in a family of readers, so I've been surrounded by books ever since I can recall. My earliest memories are of spending weekend days at home reading nonstop, sometimes finishing a book a day. Oh, how I long for the time to do that now!

My tastes these days are pretty eclectic--from literature to history to... more »

thanks! I will definitely try him .... and tell you honestly what I think. It may take a while...I have 9 books on hold at the library, and a pile on my night table!
I've read all about Wallace, and about his recent tragic end, but never read anything by him.
By the way, i love Portland...especially Powell's bookstore.....we have family in Eugene, and go there often....but I like Portland a lot more...

I am a member of a few different online book clubs, so that helps a lot. I started a couple of series this year, as well. Thanks for the congrats, by the way. I was definitely excited to reach my goal this year.

I lived in Chicago for over 20 years, though never in the city, to my great regret. I also tell people I'm from there because I believe that I grew up there. I worked for 10 years as an insurance adjuster all over the city and suburbs, quite an education for a farm boy from rural PA. I remember some nasty parts of Evanston, but also several good used bookstores within a small area. Old Town, Hyde Park and Lincoln Park were my favorite parts. I worked in the Loop for three years and went there many times in my claims work. The somewhat seedy (then) south Loop near Columbia College and Printers Row appealed more than Near North.

I suppose you'd call me a street photographer. Walker Evans famously said in his later years that nature is boring, and I agree. Not that I don't like a walk in the woods, I just can't find photographic subjects there. My darkroom work has been all B&W for almost 40 years, but I shoot digital in camera RAW, so my "proofs" are color. If you'd like to see some of my B&W, just send me an email address, either here, public or private, or to farronb@aol.com.

My interest in aviation came from my father and his father. They took me to the small airport that served Harrisburg, PA, where I watched propeller airliners take off and land. I was born during the coldest time of the Cold War, and I was encouraged to be interested in all things technical, including aerospace. I've been a flight Simulator geek for about 15 years. After that day in the UAL sim and some instruction in real airplanes, I realized that a PC sim is much harder to fly than the real thing. Your dad must have had a great career at Boeing.

    Hi Writerink,
Lincoln scholarship by a Brit, and an Oxbridge one at that. Given my Anglophile tendencies, I'm inclined to give it a try. If you are interested, you can find some of my nonfiction writing at farronbbrougher.com. The site badly needs updating, but it will still give you a sense of what I've published.

    Hello,

I hadn't seen Lincoln: A Life of Purpose and Power until I looked through part of your most impressive and varied shelf. Does this author have anything fresh to say to someone like me who's read much on Lincoln?

Hey Writerink! I haven't really trolled around here much, just trying to get all of my books I have on my shelf, which is a looong process. I think the hardest part is remembering the books you've read that you don't own. That is where I am at right now. But enjoy yourself and talk to ya later!

Hi ya! Thanks for looking me up! I found the easiest way to add books to your shelf is to go through others shelves. When you mouse over a book you can add it from there.
