I love the narrator. So far I'm only just in, but I'm kind of on a world war 2 kick - read the Painted Bird right before and highly recommend it if you are interested in some historical fiction!
It was good, finished it in a day- hard to put down. But the scenes at the beginning were so painful I had a hard time sticking through it. Are you doing a book reading challenge this summer or something? Your pace is crazy!
But isn't that the essence of summer - what you want, when you want, punctuated by naps? Nothing wrong with easy!
Yeah, I can see that - and she was so whiny - oh, no, I've got the great guy who means the world to me, and now I have to marry him. How horrible. Oh - and in the meantime I am travelling the world and my book is a suprize best seller. Woe is me. Yeah, right!
interesting in places, the whole history of marriage thing, especially the Christian bits, but a little whiny and self indulgent. You have an awesome life, get over yourself, Elizabeth, and appreciate what you have. That's my comment!
And that, my dear reader, is entirely as it should be...
What do you think of the Elizabeth Peters? Amelia Peabody Emerson is one of my favourite people!
It's really good but a little too much to read during school. It takes focus and I don't have the time for it right now. I wish I did.
I just couldn't get into it. I've gotten half way through but still not invested in the characters. I have trouble even picking it up now. Goes between his parent's story [frican immigrants-father beats mother-mother hides in her mind (how does he know what she thinks??)] and his current life as a twenty/thirty something man who can't express emotion. He's trying to discover himself by investigating his parents...
Not bad writing but I think I was trying to tackle too many books during my little break. I didn't have a lot of patience for those that didn't immediately captivate me. Just started Cleopatra yesterday-good but should have picked it up first. It'll be tough to continue reading now with my school texts as it requires some concentration. Hope that helps!
Am on a good run - I thought that U is for Undertow was the best Grafton for a while, too!
Hi. I just published my own book so check it out at

That's all right. I haven't even gotten it yet. We need to add more books to the group.
I agree completely! By the way, did you notice our new group picture?
I know, I'm having the same problem. I am sure there are many books on my list that I haven't actually read but thought about reading, or heard about. I'm also actually confused as to whether or not I read the book or saw the movie. I didn't realize how many movies come from books.
I know the feeling - especially if I have read a lot of a series, but not the whole thing! Onwards from here, though!
I know I've read lots in my day but I decided to only post what I've read recently (say the last two years) and can vividly remember/discuss. The classics I read in the past can only count if I read them again. That's my own personal rule of thumb. I read Moby Dick many times and disliked it each time. I wonder if I'd like it now?
Amelia read the first Fablehaven book and LOVED it. We have requested the second from the library. John got three today: The True Story of the Three Little Pigs, Cowboy and Octopus and Timothy and the Strong Pajamas. Great recommendations.
I haven't figured out how to arrange the shelves yet. By author makes sense. Right now I'm just still adding books.
'Tis quite cool. I am currently in Copenhagen with my family, so I don't yet have the time to become THAT addicted, but I'm sure I will soon. Thanks for sendng me the link!
I still need to send you another e-mail, unless I would start talking to you on here. But this is neither Facebook nor an e-mail service, so I'll just have to use one of those options.
Et merci et bonne année !
