Wooliferkins

All these books are on my shelves. Many may say a large chunk of them are populist junk, which i seem to recall is how Dickens came to be so well known. i enjoy being steered in new reading directions, usually by the "Ooh what's that about?" mode. Don't try and push me somewhere, I prefer to stumble. Please leave out the trip wires though. ...more »

The frogs are restless this evening. The TV show was ace, the scripts let your mind wander. If your mind goes further than Palin and Jones; a, Seek help. b, Make a packet!

Read this after reading a review in the Jordanian English language paper and recommendations from here. Loved it, not a comfortable read but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Actually chuckled previously having read Poisonwood Bible. Soldier on Mark h, it's fiction it doesn't need to be draped on points in history. Would you need to know which war a press ganged sailor was at to appraise his feelings? I think it's worth the effort but we're allowed to be different. That's possibly another reason to finish it.

Couldn't put this down. Heart wrenchingly sad and beautiful all in one package.

Absolutely loved Kite Runner as it reminded me of the child I once was and the adult I apparently am. I think it showed me how I would love to be able to make my memories vivid on the page. A Thousand Splendid Suns appears to me to be the difficult second album. While I enjoyed it it didn't hit me as completely from the heart. That looks too harsh, I didn't buy in to the story so much. Still, next Sunday, 23 Dec the author will be on Open Book on BBC Radio 4. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/arts/openbook/ I for one do not intend to miss it. Thought one or two of you might be interested

I have a bit of a blind spot for Helen Dunmore but this one just tips it for me. Heart rending study of loss and friendships

I avoided this book for so long as I thought everyone raving about it left it either a cliche or worse. What a fool I was. It's a Marmite book, i've never met anyone who said, "Yeah it's OK"
