Basically an island boy. I live in the city but I see it through his eyes. My best asset is my sobriety. I love a certain cat. If I had my druthers I would probably play the guitar all day a lot of days. Lately I've been reading comics. My wife is a librarian and a gardener and a great person. I love singing in my fabulous choir at my... more »

I haven't talked to you in a VERY LONG time. I read your bio/profile. I'm glad you have your hair. I hate spiders. I love cats, I have 6... and a lab. The dog, not the scientific room.

    Hi Michael:

Your youthful life on a remote island sounds wonderful! What a change it must have been to move into Seattle . . . hopefully not too drastic!

Yes, those are my shoes in the picture, returning from a fishing trip. Given my poor fishing capabilities, I find great comfort in relaxing on the bow with a beer (or 2) as adequate compensation.

    Best wishes,
    Scott
P.S. Wow, you can count Edward Abbey as a friend . . . that's incredible! He must have been quite a colorful and interesting conversationalist!

    Hi Michael:
Thank you for the Shelfari friendship request, I'm honored!
I noted that you consider yourself to be an "island boy," just curious, which island? My wife's sister lives on Vashon Island, a place which I consider to be very beautiful, peaceful (except for the long ferry lines). Also, you have a very interesting bookshelf IMHO. I saw that you have read two Edward Abee books (Desert Solitaire, Monkey Wrench Gang) which I thought to be very challenging in my younger years, and yet they still remain vividly in my memory!
    Best wishes,
    Scott

Read a book I think you'll really like, Final Theory by Mark Alpert. It was exciting, intellectual, adventurous and contemporary in politics and science. It seems similar to the books on your shelf, but was new to me.

    Michael,
Thanks so much for the invitation to the "Spiritual" group. I will pass for personal reasons, but I wish you all happy discoveries. My condolences on the loss of your Wilkie. I have a "Streak" who can barely get around anymore and I'm dreading the day. Thank you for sharing your loss with us.
I've just started on all the Mark Twian stories that I am familiar with, but have never really read. Good times!
What about "Pike Place"? Worth the time? I'm only about 30 miles south of Seattle and have spent a lot of time at the market over the years.
Get in touch if you have time.

    Hi Michael!

I just wanted to send you a quick note to tell you that the Minneapolis-St.Paul-Minnesota Group has chosen some good books to read and discuss together during the upcoming months. Our Group Read for the months of September/October will be The Master Butcher’s Singing Club by Louise Erdrich and the group read for the months of November/December will be Growing An Inch by Stanley Gordon West. Both books are by Minnesota authors.

I invite you to join us in reading and discussing these books. Personally, I’ve started reading The Master Butcher’s Singing Club and I think it’s going to make for a great discussion. It has some very interesting characters!

    Lynne / Doughgirl5562 – Co-Admin of the Minneapolis-St.Paul-Minnesota Group

P.S. My condolences on the recent loss of your beloved pet. If that's him in your avatar, it looks like he was a great dog.
