To Say Nothing of the Dog is an absolute must-read... as is the Doomsday Book, though it focuses on the wrong century for Steampunks. I'll try to get to a real review one day. If you haven't already (and surely all Englishmen have), be sure to read Three Men in a Boat, or see the video version with Tim Curry, before reading To Say Nothing of the Dog.

Must recruit other steampunks. I certainly would have been more comfortable in the 19th century... though being a woman would have been, let us say, inconvenient.

I lived in Brize Norton, near Oxford. Had a blast the three years we were there. Did a lot brass rubbing and travel throughout England, Scotland and Ireland. Spent fair amount of time at the Bicester Soaring and Gliding Club learning to fly. Loved the TV. Lived in a 100 y.o. mortored cottage with a slate roof that had been converted into two flats. Fed the shilling meter. An RAF pilot and his wife lived in the bottom. Drove an old mini and then bought a Lotus Elan to bring back to the States. We were the only Americans in the village. We worked at Upper Heyford. Had great fun with the locals at the pub in the village. Miss some of it very much.

Do you live close to White Horse Hill? I visited there, going thru the gates and the sheep in the field. Fascinating. Early 70s.
