My name is WILLIAM FREDRICK COOPER, and I want to take time out to express my appreciation to those who read African-American Literature. SIX DAYS IN JANUARY, my first novel, was Self-published in 2001 by First Books Library, and re- published in 2004 by ZANE and STREBOR BOOKS. A critical success, for the first time, you experience what some men endure when trying to find love while battling with their own insecurities. (you'll find out some things about me, for this is a semi-autobiographical story.)
My second novel, THERE'S ALWAYS A REASON was truly a blessing. Nominated for an AFRICAN-AMERICAN LITERARY AWARD in September of 2007, it was featured by EBONY MAGAZINE (MARCH 2007) and an ESSENCE BESTSELLER (APRIL 2008). it has been described by many as an "EMOTIONAL MASTERPIECE". A STAND ALONE Sequel to Six Days In January (meaning, you really don't have to read the first book), THERE'S ALWAYS A REASON delivers a powerful message of hope in God's most precious energy LOVE, and I feel blessed that HE used me as a vehicle to weave a powerful, inspirational story. (Lord Knows, every I had inside went into this one.) I was also on the MASTER'S FINALIST LIST of the 2008 NAACP IMAGE AWARDS Outstanding Fiction Literature Category. If you believe in that "Drama Lit", then you might want to pass this one by, because this compelling story shows illustrates in the clearest possible form that Men and Women NEED EACH OTHER!!! I truly hope you add it to your collection.
Also I'm a contributor to ZANE'S CARAMEL FLAVA, SISTERGIRLS.COM and, most recently, DEAR G-SPOT: STRAIGHT TALK ABOUT SEX AND LOVE. My story DEAR ZANE... A LUST LETTER BY A FAN reveals another part of me; that deep sexual side that only a select few have found out about. ZANE, thanks for allowing me to let it go in print. My collaboration with JESSICA TILLES called SHH...NO ONE HAS TO KNOW, appearing in her anthology EROGENOUS ZONE: A SEXUAL VOYAGE, goes further into my world of seductive fantasy.
Saving my freaky side for "the quickie", the short story, I'll return to reality with HOW COME, HOW LONG in 2010, where I'll again visit serious issues, this time discussing how a brutal rape can have lingering affects on the lives of both VICTIM and ASSAILANT.
A student of the craft , I am in pursuit of writing that perfect story. Studying the works of many writers from the Harlem Rennaisance, my goal is that of Baldwin, Ann Petry or John A. Williams, to absolutely nail something that will be remembered long after I'm gone. I might not succeed, but I'll have fun trying.
