Good to see another from Amarillo here. If you are a retired librarian here I bet you knew Laura Moore. I lost touch with her after Pat went to an air base up north.
I thought you might be interested in a contest that I’m holding. It’s wacky, creative and ‘killer’ fun. ‘Create a Corpse’ Contest lets you name a character in my next suspense novel Divine Justice. Of course, you guessed it—the character dies. So here’s a great way to ‘kill off’ your boss, or childhood bully. ;)For contest details, just scroll over the following URL, copy and paste into your browser. This contest is for avid readers who’d like to be part of the process. I’ve been getting lots of entries from my Shelfari friends, and I look forward to receiving yours. :)http://www.cherylktardif.com/contests/~Cheryl Kaye Tardif, bestselling author of Whale Song, Divine Intervention and The River
HI - just trying out Shelfari- excited to find others reading some of the books I have read; thanks so much for telling me aoubt this site. love, jollyozo
Great to meet you. Looking forward to checking out your shelf and I hope you enjoy mine.
Mary Kay, sorry for the late reply. It was Eid (Muslims' equivalent to Christmas) last weekend so I got too caught up with all the preparation and celebration and couldn't find time to go on the internet :) Do look for 'On Grief and Grieving', it's such a gentle book that tremendously helped me to cope with my father's death in April this year. Other books that have helped me understand my loss and feelings, as well as others' reactions to my emotions - which are not necessarily supportive during my time of grief - are all listed under my tag of 'grief', with one exception; 'Saying Goodbye'. Couldn't find this book in Shelfari to put it on my shelf, maybe because it's published by Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) and its audience is most probably limited to Down Under. If you would like to read that book, or any other books on my shelf but you have difficulties in getting them, do let me know. The DF books that I'm looking for are the newer three - Win, Place or Show; Under Orders; and Dead Heat - in no particular order. I think they are bound to turn up in some other bookstores in Melbourne besides Borders - it's only that I haven't found the time to go to other stores yet. If I can't find them, I'll certainly let you know, so thanks in advance for your kind offer! Please do take care of yourself and it's been good exchanging notes with you!
Hello from Melbourne! My fascination with phone directory was partly due to the fact that my family only got a home phone, and hence the directory, when I was 14 (my father was struggling to make ends meet with a wife and seven kids to feed, you see, and we had more faith in public phone booths to have functioning phones at that time). So the thick fat book was a novelty in my household for quite sometime! As for Dick Francis - all of his books that Huwie and I are sharing (save for his unauthorized bio), had been purchased from various parts of the world - Kuala Lumpur (most of them are from here, as this is where Huwie and I'm from actually), Halifax, Canada (where I used to live for a couple of years) and Cairo (where Huwie went to do her medical program). I'm still looking for D.F.'s latest book in paperback.'Don't be Sad' - it's a book that was given to me from my friend after my father's death. I go back to this book from time to time, to read a passage, or a chapter here and there. It has references from the Qur'an (Koran) and sayings of Muhammad ad passim. Being a Moslem myself I find the spiritual comfort in the connections between the holy texts with human grief which the author has beautifully drawn. Besides this book, the other read that I find solace in is the last book co-written by Kubler-Ross - Grief and Grieving. It's on my shelf but haven't got around to write my own review of that one yet.
Can you believe that the picture is of me and Hannah. I still think of her as a 5 year old. She hates that.
So Good to hear from you, Thanks for showing me this amazing site! Love you
I read your comment on A Wrinkle in Time. I was fortunate enough to have spent one week of my life in a writing workshop with M. L'Engle. It changed my life. Why? Not only was she my childhood hero, but I was ready to meet her, to sit at her feet, to learn...to become a writer. Yes, her words will certainly live on in the hearts of many. ~Carol D. O'Dell
Plx sav me frm #%#@ shthnd riting!WWW
Hullo! Just been browsing your collection of D. Francis! Between my best friend and I, we have started building a collection of his work ever since we were 17, but I kinda stopped looking for his book after Mary passed away. Good to know Francis is back on galloping!
Since you are still the most intelligent and well-read person I know, I was glad to see that I have read a few of the books on your shelf. I tend to read things that don't have any "redeeming social value" but are fun. Hope all is going as well as can be expected at this point in your life. I think of you so often.
Hey, It's Marsha. How are you??? You have been in my heart for weeks. I thought you must need space, so I've been waiting....I hope you know I love you and have been aching for you. How are you? M
