What i'm marveling about this book is that it made me fall in love with it without me realizing it. I was hooked with the first chapter knowing that this book will give me a satisfying and different experience. The next chapters are short stories, adventures on their own with lessons to be learned at each end which are quite remarkable; nothing exceptional though. I was starting to lose faith, started thinking that maybe this one was just another read.

Then came the INTERLUDE or The Convocation which piqued my interest once more. From then on, there was no putting down the book. I was surprised to notice that lumps were forming in my throat a couple of times towards the end at that was when i realized that i totally love this story. The earlier chapters he had painstakingly laid out to build the foundation of what's going to happen at the end. It's like a Sleer has wrapped its coils lazily around me and claimed me and there was no escaping it.

Neil Gaiman has woven and breathed life onto a graveyard. His characters: mysterious and lovable, his storyline: simply wonderful, his great talent in story telling from beginning to end: impressive and undeniable.

I'm having a hard time choosing which characters i'm most fond of because they all deserve to be recognized, but i think Silas, Miss Lupescu and Liza Hempstock made the most impression on me. Especially Ms. Lupescu, there's nothing about her that i did not love. *forces lump back down throat*

There. I even managed to make a lreview, goes to show how much i love it. ^_^

If there was a book that made me cry so much and gave me colds and a headache, this was it. I was crying even before i reached page 10! All i can think is how cruel life can be for some of us... but what is important is learning not to give up and to continue living despite of it all...

I never heard of this book before i stumbled upon it in a bookstore. I was intrigued with the synopsis on the cover because it tells of a story about four girls living in the same neighborhood, same street even, Gumm Street (surprise, surprise!) but never quite get along with each other, in fact they hated each other. But because of a pair of ruby red/silver shoes and and a glamorous but mysterious woman (the book refers to her as the storm) named Cha Cha, which threatens to disrupt the otherwise "peaceful" lives of those living in Gumm Street, the four girls decided to embark on an adventure of a lifetime. Along the way, they will meet new foes and allies, discover their strengths and secure the trust and friendship of one another..

The plot of the book is quite connected with the land and the characters of Oz. It's a light read and really aims for a much younger audience. But if you're young at heart i'm sure you'll find this book fascinating and even tugs at your heart at the right places at the right time, enough to bring a lump in your throat. :)
