I am married and have 5 cats and 1 dog (Keva my mini-daschund in my photo). Pooka is the name of my oldest kitty and I swear it fits her since she is always starring out at things we can't see (I bet they are fairies ;)). I own a lot of books many which I haven't even read yet and I am excited to finally have a place to list them all! I just can't help but buy every new book I see that interests me since I always believe I will not remember to buy it later. I wouldn't want to miss discovering a new author! I have loved books since I was a shy little kid who didn't like how the real world was and discovered all the wonderful worlds you could find in books. I loved horror, historical romance and fantasy as a kid, but started loving urban fantasy and paranormal romance when I became a teenager. I have been reading urban fantasy, paranormal romance and some horror (mostly the paranormal ones) ever since. I enjoy the genre both in the adult and young adult sections. Charles de Lint was the first author that ever got me into Urban Fantasy and he is still one of my favorite authors. Francesca Lia Block was the first author I fell in love with in young adult fantasy. As for paranormal romance and horror I first discovered it through Laurel K. Hamilton (Merry Gentry series- when 1st book came out), Christine Feehan (she was prob. on her third book in the Dark Series) and Sherrylin Kenyon (Fantasy Lover- before it even became the 1st in the series). When I first got into it these ladies and Anne Rice where pretty much the only ones that wrote in the genre. Since then it has been nice to see all of the new authors in the genres that have come out and a whole new set in the young adult as well. I still prefer the urban settings to historical since I can relate more to the settings and imagine what it would be like to have the characters in my own world. Sure there are some nonfiction books that I have enjoyed as well, but for me I personally want a book to take me to a magical world different from here. Even when I read regular fiction it has to have a touch of magic and surrealism to it. I usually turn to authors like Alice Hoffman and Sarah Addison Allen when I am in a mood for that genre. « less
