I'm a web designer based in the far west of Cornwall, England. I love reading and constantly have several books on the go, on a variety of subjects. I read fiction (quite a lot of fantasy and sci-fi, but other stuff as well), business books to help me develop our business, web design books, vegetarian cook books, and crafty books (predominantly... more »

I loved this book. Took a couple of chapters to get into but then was hooked. What I found the most interesting was the development of the relationship between the two main characters - something very appealing in the simplicity and innocence of it.

I found this quite a strange book but very interesting. The futility of knowing that everyone will be dead within a few months but not being able to do anything about it is overwhelming. Makes you wonder what you would do in a similar situation.

    Excellent book. Compulsive but unsettling.

  • Unleaving

The book I read was actually Goldengrove Unleaving by Jill Paton Walsh, but can't find that in the database. Goldengrove and Unleaving were originally published separately but were then brought together into the one publication. They are two short novels for young adults, set in West Cornwall. The main characters are Madge and Paul, who holiday every year with their Gran near St. Ives. Overall an enjoyable read but not something that is particularly going to stay with me.

Brilliant book. I really felt for the characters and was compelled to continue reading to find out how it ended. Loved it!

  • Start Your Business Week by Week: How to Plan & Launch Your Successful Business - One Step at a Time
    • Rated 5 stars

This is a brilliant book, taking you through the process of setting up a business a week at a time. Each week takes a different theme and sets you tasks to do which build on the previous weeks. Starting a business can be quite a daunting process but this book helps you break it down into manageable chunks. Also has a brilliant accompanying website where you can get advice and moral support from other business startups. Can't recommend it enough!

  • The Space Trilogy: Out of the Silent Planet, Perelandra, and That Hideous Strength (The Space Trilogy, Volumes 1-3)

Excellent trilogy. Not a light read - he can be a bit wordy at times, but definitely worth sticking with. That Hideous Strength, the third in the trilogy, is by far the best of the three - had me completely hooked from beginning to end.
