Lord take this cup away from me....
"I can't son, it belongs to you"
But Lord this cup is too much for me to bear!
"You can handle it, Jesus drank from the cup"
    But Lord I aint Jesus!
    "But He lives in YOU!"
    But Lord I am weak!
"His strength works best when you’re weak"
But Lord have you seen what's in my cup?
"Yeah I know I put it in there!"
But Lord there is sickness in my cup!
"And I called you to heal"
But Lord there is confusion in my cup!
"And I called you to teach"
But Lord there is pain in my cup!
"And I called you spread my Word"
But Lord why do I have to drink THIS cup?
”Because I want you to act like my Son!”
Last question Lord....Does everyone have to drink this cup?
"Everyone has to taste their reality"

In a moment of pique and frustration Virginia wrote an open letter to Oprah, and shared it with a few writer friends who are going through the same thing we are. Now the letter has started to go viral--getting a lot of repostings and inclusions in blogs, newsletters and on Facebook, so in case you hadn't seen it, we wanted to share our plight, the plight of many black authors with you, readers who have supported us all these years. http://twomindsfull.blogspot.com.

In reality Oprah is just a metaphor--a name that might get this subject the attention it deserves. Because when you have a publication like Library Journal listing their 31 Best Books of 2009 http://ow.ly/HDU7 and the "genre" fiction list includes Street Lit --8 books but no category for contemporary African American writers, we are really in trouble.

We are trying to encourage diversity in reading--we believe books should be windows, not just mirrors...

Sorry I’ve been away so long. I’ve been entirely toooooo busy.

Anywhooo, in your Black Romance group, we’ll be reading Protect and Serve by Gwyneth Bolton next and start discussing it on 10 Oct. Now go ahead and purchase Gwen’s book now, even if you plan on reading it late, because it is a Harlequin book and you know they can be difficult to find.

Have you heard about all the fun we had at the 2008 Romance Slam Jam? Well that’s NOTHING compared to what’s coming in 2010.

It’s Romance Slam Jam’s Crystal Anniversary! Our theme is Back to the Future with Rochelle Alers as our keynote speaker! Everyone is Welcome To Join the Romance Slam Jam Crystal Anniversary Celebration Cruise departing from Miami, Florida, Sunday April 10th, 2010. We will be embarking on the five day Carnival Cruise to Ocho Rios, Jamaica and Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands on the “Destiny” Fun Ship.

Marie Antionette would like to share an excerpt from her book titled A Girl Named Job with you and all of her Shelfair friends...

This is from Chapter 3, Wheres My Daddy...

It took a few seconds for the reality of things to really hit me but once it did I broke down and cried like a wounded dog.I didn’t cry because we’d just gotten robbed. I cried because I though Nana was gonna “whop” my a**! Surely she wasn’t going to believe me, she never does! I knew she was going to put the blame on me. I was the only one in the house and I didn’t do anything to stop him. I could hear her now, "Why didn’t you go run and tell somebody you run ya’ mouth any other time?” “Why didn’t you pick up the phone and call somebody-the police?” My thoughts had me so afraid, that by now the house is filled with my weeps. It was hard for me to hear anything over the sound of my shed tears. I though the ordeal was over, I though Gilly was gone. But as I lift my head an opened my eyes, he was standing right there staring at me like my reflection in the mirror. That F***** Me Up! It felt like witches riding my back. I couldn’t scream, I couldn’t move, I couldn’t yell, I couldn’t blink, I couldn’t do shit! All I could do was sit and stare. I didn’t make one move, but when the nigga’ touched me, WOAH Nelly! Talk about fade to Black! I was gone, I’d completely zoned out. I had no idea what his intentions were and at the same time it felt like my spirit had vacated my body. Gilly didn’t have his hands on me he had his hands on an empty shell. He was saying some thing to me but I couldn’t hear him. His touch numbed my body. I don’t know how long he was in the room with me. I was just relieved as hell when he left. I started crying again...
