GAME FOR LOVE had a much bigger punch to it than I was expecting as I have not read the first two books. However, seeing as how I am a huge Bella Andre reader, I don’t know why I thought this book would be any different.
The beginning blew me away! What a whirlwind romance between Cole Taylor and Anna Davis. This was one of those stories where the bad boy doesn’t think he deserve to be happy with a good girl, meanwhile the good girl sees the good in the bad boy and wants to come out of her shell with the bad boy.
With his grandmother’s wish being Cole would find a ‘nice’ girl to settle down with, after some crazy teen and 20’s years, Cole spills the lie that he’s already found a ‘nice’ girl and he’ll bring her tomorrow to meet her.
Anna Davis is tired of being the different one in her family, the good girl. After her last sister walks down the aisle, Anna’s the only single one left in a family that always thought she would marry first. When she learns they all think she’s ‘safe’ and ‘boring’ she forces herself to join them at a bar for after wedding celebrations to be crazy.
Spotting her like a deer in headlights, Cole knows Anna is the perfect ‘good’ girl to take to his grandmother. When the kisses become hotter and the gap between their bodies disappears, Cole pops the question.
And on this crazy night, Anna marries a pro football player without even knowing it. Now, at this point, I was like ‘how in the world does this story fit into what the back synopsis has?’ but I quickly found out.
These two could light the sheets on fire. The chemistry was there and even though they had just met, these two were meant for each other. Cole pushed Anna’s limits their very first night and opened her to the world of pleasure.
However, when Cole brings up visiting his sick grandmother, he mentions changing the story on how they met and thus his entire plan is revealed and Anna is furious. She thought she had finally found someone who liked her for her and could see more to her than just ‘safe’ and ‘boring’ but after Cole’s bombshell she demands a divorce.
Now, by this time they both have feelings, although they both want to dismiss them as being less powerful than they really are.
When the press finds them, they realize his grandmother will learn the truth if they don’t go along with the marriage and the secret dating story they cook up. That also meant Anna had to continue the lie for her family as well. In exchange, Cole will keep doing wicked things with her in bed. Seems to me he’s getting the best of both worlds.
Or it would be that way if these two weren’t so madly in love with the other. Now together, they each invade all personal spaces of the others life and becomes a part of them. It doesn’t hurt that Cole’s grandmother loves Anna, too!
Anna is the first to admit her feeling and can only hope more will come from this. Cole on the other hand, fears not being good enough and worries he’ll break her heart.
Cole reluctantly agrees to an interview. There Anna doesn’t have to fake her feelings and Cole gets a clear picture of her growing feelings. When she adds ‘love’ to the equation, Cole really start examining his own feelings.
Unfortunately before he can come to his conclusion that he does love her, he spills the truth behind their relationship to Ty and is overheard by the returning journalist.
Despite promising Anna he loves her, when the truth comes out, she’s out the door. Her trust gone in him.
Separation only makes the heart grow fonder. Grandmother takes the news well, but she can see the love in their eyes and isn’t worried. Cole has fought for so much in his life, he’ll fight for Anna. Good news also hits when she goes into remission from her cancer.
When he takes a nasty hit in a game, Anna rushes to him and realizes the only emotion she feels in love. Painfully, Cole gets in the kneeling position and proposes all over again.
3 months later, grandmother can see the blooming life Anna is carrying and thinks they both will make amazing parents.
