    I think a quick dip into the fantasy genre isn't at all harmful.. quite a break, really. Thanks for the input on Charlaine Harris' novels. I have always wanted to pick one up everytime I see them.. maybe it's the covers. They're kind of catchy. I am rather torn myself. I am re-reading David Brin's Uplift series. Started with 'Sundiver' and am currently on 'Startide Rising' (my favorite of his books). I think you should try him out- I think you would enjoy his style and his fantastic imagination. The real reason I'm torn is as I am reading Brin, I am also in a book club with, well how do I put it?? Soccer moms? Heh. It's an adventure. I am currently seeing myself as a self-proclaimed foreigner, teaching them of things they've never heard of before. Frank Herbert? uhh, Vikram Seth?
    Anyways, as I said, it's an adventure. But, try out Brin, as I said, I think you would enjoy his books. Good to hear from you.

    how is the thesis going? and have any new books to recommend?
    Just wondering how things are. I just finished the Celibate by Michael Arditti. It is a fantastic book, though slow moving at first, about a Catholic priest who must face a startling truth about his own life, his own sexuality, and his own heritage- a definite recommend. Not particularly science fiction (actually not at all) but still a delightful and insightful read. Cheers
