Greetings, and welcome to my bookcase! I'm a former English teacher and mother of eight (five sons and three daughters) and grandmother of one precious little girl. I could have read a lot more books, but my kids insist on being fed and taken care of all the time :-)

I tried to add books I've read that I liked or would recommend or... more »

I just finished Pride and Prejudice and Zombies today, FINALLY. I stand firm on my assertion that it remains one of the best pieces of zombie literature out there. It would make a good addition to the summer reading list; in order to read P&P&Zombies the student must also read the original Pride and Prejudice. It would lead to a great classroom discussion concerning their differences... at least for a couple of minutes!

The twilight ending was fine. Stephanie Meyer is no GRRM. Her ending fits the female brain.

so my sister has all four twilight books out of the library.
since i have a month of open time for reading over break, i figured i'd see what all the hullaballoo is about.
i've come to the conclusion that they are romance novels for pre-teens.
either that or an elaborate metaphorical PSA about waiting for marriage.
what did you think about them?

College life is going really well. I have a ton of time to do extra reading.....and I've definitely been reading tons! I've kinda been reading more teen genre books lately, I think it's because I didn't really get into reading so much until I started Honors English classes, where we mostly read the classics. Did I tell you that I'm working at the campus Law Library! Its all pretty exciting. I really miss your english class too, though I'm impressed with my Comp II English teacher. I actually got a 95% on my last paper. YES!

I'm not sure. There was a scene like that in Sophie's Choice but that isn't really a children's book. I'll check my shelf today and try to find it. barb

I look forward to the day when I'm adding books because I've actually JUST read them, not because I woke up in the middle of the night and remembered a favorite book. I'm also looking forward to adding educational books that I CHOOSE to read rather than those I am reading for a class! C'mon, June...

Don't be surprised if you wake up in the middle of the night suddenly remembering a book you haven't added to your "I've read" section, and you are compelled to get up and turn on the computer to add it!

well according to my sources at depaul i get to get out of TWO english classes because of my score. it was well worth the $84 haha.

also i was cleaning out my closet the other day, and what did i come across but a copy of tess of the d'urbervilles haha. i will stop in sometime during the year to visit and return tess so some lucky student can have the pleasure of reading her tragic tale. tee hee.
