My happiest and most indelible childhood memories are of cycling to the Easwari Lending Library on Lloyds Road, and spending hours selecting my reading list for the week.
The smell of books and the vibes of other booklovers... my first glimpse of what passion is all about.
And then the serene USIS library, exploring the not-so-popular... more »

I studied in a convent, and was exposed to quite a few 'eligible' fathers and brothers!! So Thorn Birds to me is one of the most romantic books ever. It takes you through a journey across the world, it makes you sad, it makes you happy... and it says love is never easy.

Parts of the book are so BRILLIANTLY written. Other parts seem like it has been written by someone trying hard to match up. I did not like the ending... it was just too sad. But such a topical subject, where there are no rights and wrongs. There are cliches galore, but the bottomline is that few can right as beautifully and as movingly as Jodi Picoult. Somewhere at the back of my mind, I thought there was an echo of Ann Patchett. Probably both the writers seem to have such a grip at analysing emotions, and at the same time, have the same difficulty drawing conclusions. Wish I could write so.

If I ever have an extra-marital affair, let it be on record, Greene is to be blamed for enticing me with the idea. And if I ever have one, I want it to be a re-enactment of this.

Though I love Jane Eyre, Emily is my favourite sister. She has a lot more depth and plots in her works. Her characters are very finely etched. Who can read Wuthering Heights and not be taken in by Heathcliff. My first taste of a brooding hero.

Let's start by saying, I am totally prejudiced by this book. The very first classic I have read unabridged. I loved it. I was about 10, and the very next year, it was mandatory reading at school, and was thrilled to act all knowledgeable. But ego apart, I loved the book for it's simple and stark descriptions. The longing that Jane feels...

Hilarious, and a trendsetter. And for a change, the movie was as funny as the book. The thing about this book, as compared to other chicklits is that it is not predictable. Really, rib tickling funny!

It is funny, yes. Kind of. But is it worth all the rave reviews it has been getting? not so sure. so predictable and mundance. it is well written of course. hmm, is it a wise buy for me? not sure, don't think i am going to read the book again, so kind of a waste to have bought it. should have borrowed it.

like, becky, who can't resist a buy, good or bad, i can't seem to resist buying a book, that is supposed to be a best seller. Don't get me wrong, this is not a bad book. but it is not great or even half there. well written, funny in a predictable, slapstick manner, obviously trying to compete with other brit chicklits like Bridget Jones (which is fantastic!). So when everything seems going well for Becky, she screws it up again. Hmm... talking about stereotypes, the book is full of them. really questioning my judgement in buying 2 from the series, without first testing the waters.

This is so obviously sponsored by the big companies, who want to toy with facts and play with people's mind, and screw up the environment. so much propaganda, it hurts that one of my favourite authors stoops to this level.

The authors say that what you do is not as important as what you are in terms of parenting. or something to that effect. and that condones everything i don't do at home, and just hope these rogues are right, for the sake of my child.
