I would recommend 'The God Delusion', while I remained un-convinced, and found both Spong and Borg more enlightening, I did find he had some interesting arguments, and said several things I'd wish I'd said when arguing with fundamentalist Christians... I'm sure it wouldn't have made any difference, but I still wish I would have said it...

I saw you are reading 'God is not Great', I just finished 'The God Delusion' I felt it was a good argument against a biblical Christian God, but he states right up front he isn't arguing against the grander idea of God, say Einstein’s God, so really I didn't feel it covered much ground for me, I also felt a little like he was a fundamentalist atheist, and carries so many of the flaws any kind of fundamentalist would carry... I'd like to hear what you think when you are done... You know, assuming I make it on here again before I return home... Otherwise you'll just be able to tell me in person.

Hi Uta, I just finished a book which I think you would find most interesting: Monique and the Mango Rains by Kris Holoway. It is about two years with a midwife in Africa--Mali written by a young Peace Corps worker. Of course there is lots on information on birthing in very primitive situations as well as interesting people and village life. The author becomes very good friends with Monique, the young midwife. She is very amazing--someone with a sixth grade education and nine months additional training who provides all the health care for this little village. She is so good women from other villages come to her for care. Enjoy! Anne

Hi Uta, As you can see I have started filling my bookshelf. Next, when I get around to it I will write a few reviews. Now--tell me how I can use this site to find like minded readers or recommendations to books similar to those I enjoy. I noticed when I first saw your site that you had a list of key words. How do you use those? I see you have Plainsong on your shelf. Have you read Eventide--same author and many of the same characters, follows Plainsong? Anne

Hi Uta, I am enjoying exploring this website. I'm not sure whether I have successfully joined yet. I tried. I just finished reading Year of Wonder by Geraldine Brooks, a historical story about the plague in a village in England--sad, but with lots of intesting information and a wonderful main character. Have you read her books before? The most interesting: Nine Parts of Desire (non-fiction about the lives of women in the Middle East). Now to visit your shelf! Anne B.
