    Hi…

It’d be cool to get James Lee Burke to write you a “This is a great book” blurb on your novel someday. His writing is quite different than mine yet there is something going on there that not only allows me to fully appreciate his subtle variations in technique, but also to absorb many of his finer deployments to incorporate later into my own pieces. :]

Hall’s ‘Thorn’ novels are quite good: in particular, Buzz Cut and Mean High Tide. And yes I knew he taught in Florida and that Dennis Lehanne was his student. You might say that I am one of Hall’s student too—though only through dissecting his novels however. :D

James Crumley was one of Hall’s best friends: he was the guy that pushed Hall to start writing novels instead of just poetry. Crumley is a very good hard-boiled writer and his ‘The Last Good Kiss’ is a classic. But then if you are talking Hard-boiled then Chandler and Ross MacDonald are the best.

I’ve been lucky…I have had a number of conversations (and workshops) with authors of some consequence over the years. Ray Bradbury and Frank Herbert for example.

    :]

    Hey Up...

Have you read any of James Lee Burke’s books?

He would go well with the authors you got listed.

    So would two other Jame's:
James Crumley's The Last good Kiss
    and
    James W Hall's Buzz Cut

The Critical Ideological Politics group hasn't been very active recently, so I thought I'd stir things up. Come and enjoy.

Thanks! I am honored to be a member of your group. Shelfari is new to me, so I've not become real familiar with it yet, but I will. And I've asked several friends to join.

Thanks! Looks like some good discussion! I tend to be more of a reader than a poster, but I will jump in when the occasion arises! :)

Thanks for the welcome.. at present am reading 'disappearance of the universe'.. too early to start a discussion yet.. all I can say right now is the world today, with technology.. education.. easy connectivity.. logical reasoning and questioning.. etc.. needs and in some cases desperately seeks answers to a world.. life.. seemingly gone meaningless.. unable to justify pain.. murders.. wars.. a God turning to stone maybe.. replays of life holding such deep fervor only to turn to dust.. so at such a time when our scriptures.. with their myriad translations losing the pure essence of meaning.. difficult to access.. decipher or understand.. for the masses.. it becomes imperative that alternative thought processes.. belief systems.. or ideologies crop up to furnish that need.. and this is an attempt towards that..
