  • Captive Prince: Volume One
    • Rated 4 stars

Rich descriptions bring this world to life and page by page, Pacat makes a fictional fantasy world feel real for readers. If you’re not reading for its characters, then read it for its worldbuilding. This is truly an extraordinary book! ~ Under the Covers

Pacat takes something that I love – M/M Romance and puts her spin on it so that it becomes this living, breathing thing. The first thing you notice when you start reading Volume One is the rich details. Pacat does not skim anything. A story that is not for the faint of heart, CAPTIVE PRINCE takes on the notion of slavery and puts it front and center. Let me warn you now, it’s graphic and sometimes unpleasant, but nevertheless you become so attuned to Damen’s character that you cannot bare to look away.

Damen is a warrior of his own kind. As the rightful heir to his kingdom, he has been stripped of his identity when his half brother gains control and is sent to their enemies’ territory to become his slave. A chilling thought, that but once again, the writing hook you in. I also think the big reason why readers become so entranced by this book is because it’s told through the eyes of Damen. We see some vulnerability, yet Damen never really backs down through it all. Strength and power are all relative when it comes to this fantasy world. I think if this story were told from a different perspective, it wouldn’t hold the same appeal and it definitely wouldn’t be so entertaining.

Prince Laurent is desperate to break Damen. Seeking revenge for his brother’s death, Laurent doesn’t simply want an eye for an eye. He wants Damen to suffer. Now I know you’re wondering if there could be a HEA. That has yet to be determined in this volume. But I can tell you that there are traces of a romance blooming. It’s not clear at first. In fact, you may think the opposite when they first meet, but Pacat lays details that are there if you look closely enough. For this alone, I’m willing to read on to find out.

It’s been awhile since I’ve read a good fantasy book and this is what it is. Pacat weaves an intricate world filled with politics and unknown lands yet to be discovered. Rich descriptions bring this world to life and page by page, Pacat makes a fictional fantasy world feel real for readers. If you’re not reading for its characters, then read it for its worldbuilding. This is truly an extraordinary book!

“ Ms. Kaye exceeded my expectations surprising me with more emotions, deeper connections between the characters and even a hotter hero for me to be in love with. Yes, another great book by Ms. Robin Kaye, indeed.” ~Under the Covers

You’re the One is the second installment of Bad Boys of Red Hook series by Robin Kaye. It is Contemporary, but Ms. Kaye had added a hint of foodie romance to its flare. As expected, Ms. Kaye did not disappoint and again released a well-written, sweet and sexy novel.

Logan and Skye are great together. They are both trying to find their place in this world; Skye, though independent and a great chef, she longs for equal respect while Logan is established career wise but not so much in the “true” love department. The things they lack in their current lives, they find in each other. I love that Ms. Kaye made them adults in every sense. They both made decisions with pride. I can respect that in people in real life and the characters I read about. In addition, you will not find angst in their relationship. No, when Logan decided to pursue Skye, there were no qualms about it. He was up front and just went for what he wanted. Logan is a bit more serious than Storm was, but he’s just as sexy. Skye couldn’t have been more perfect for Logan because she is just as serious about her goals in life. Oh, and Ms. Kaye did not forget to add sexy in their romance. Just remember that Skye is a chef and Logan is a wine maker. And you know what they say about people in that industry….they are known to be most passionate.

Characters from the previous books (Back to You and Hometown Girl) of course made their appearance. Nikki’s parentage is still in question, though she is oblivious to what is going on. Boy, that little girl is the sweetest thing. D.O.G was there as well. Simon the sexy bartender was there quite a bit. Storm and Bree was there but not as much. Pete, their dad was there still sneaking his beer and cigars. Rocki and Patrice are the funniest girlfriends Skye will ever have. They reminded me of my own friends…in college. They had me laughing and remembering the old days. However, the most intriguing are the Maxwell brothers. There is a big potential for a spin off with them. I can tell you right now; they can be stubborn, protective and they are sexy! I hope Ms. Kaye have plans for that because I would be the first in line to read about them.

I knew I was going to love this book, but I did not expect to love it more the first book. Ms. Kaye exceeded my expectations surprising me with more emotions, deeper connections between the characters and even a hotter hero for me to be in love with. Yes, another great book by Ms. Robin Kaye, indeed.

“JUST WHAT HE WANTED is a great addition to this series, if not one of my favorite stories in it.” ~Under the Covers

What can I say? I’m a total sucker for sexy younger men that know what they want, have confidence, and have brains. That’s what Travis Yardley has to offer. He’s sweet and thoughtful, a hard worker, a sexy beast. I mean who doesn’t want a guy that’s just a tad rough on the outside?

We’ve gotten to know Travis a bit throughout the series, but Andie was new to town. Coming in to help her friend Lila with running the mountain resort she just remodeled. Andie just went through a bad breakup. But being that the resort is not the safest place for a woman alone, Travis is called in to help out with both manual labor and some extra protection.

Of course, Andie fights the attraction from the getgo mainly because she’s older than Travis and she feels that she can’t be with him because of it. But Travis is determined to show her that he wants her and that he’s not a kid. And lets just say he had my vote from the beginning!

JUST WHAT HE WANTED is a great addition to this series, if not one of my favorite stories in it. It’s sweet and sexy with a great romance that will just sweep you away for a little while. If you are looking for a light contemporary quick pick me up, then this will fit!

EYES WIDE OPEN was a game changer for me. It changed how I felt about Ethan and it made me fall heads over heels in love with this series. This book has heart – lots of it! ~ Under the Covers

The road to love for Brynne and Ethan has been a tumultuous one. Bad guys stand in their way, but it’s more than that as well. Up until now, Brynne hasn’t fully given herself over to Ethan despite him giving her his world. So I was most looking forward to seeing how in the third installment of the series how Miller would further develop their romance. In the end, EYES WIDE OPEN turned out to be my favorite of the series so far.

The major events that occur in this book are spoilery so I won’t go into details about what they are, but I can tell you that I liked the path that Miller took in this book. Not only did it seem to fit the overall plot, but it was also the right time for Brynne and Ethan to make that next step. Though the first step is far from smooth, it made me as a reader come to love the lengths that they would go through to be with each other. In the previous books, I thought their romance was too swift and wasn’t tested enough. But in this book, you can feel the love pouring from them both.

I will admit, I wasn’t sure how I felt about Ethan from the last book. He seemed so different than what I expected, but in this book, I saw him under a different light. Readers catch a glimpse of his playful side, the part of him that isn’t so burdened down by his experiences. We see his love for Brynne is its whole unbridled passion and it made me love him. I think this quote from Brynne’s POV best sums up my thoughts on Ethan Blackstone:

“It had taken me a bit of time to make it, but I’d gotten there. I had accepted Ethan’s love and offered him my whole self in return. Finally.”

Much like Brynne, it took me awhile to really fall for Ethan, but I see it now and I can’t wait to see where Miller takes the series next.

I love what Miller chose to do with this book. The alternating POVs between Brynne and Ethan gave us both sides to the story and showed a unity between them that made their romance feel stronger. Furthermore, the executive of the suspense aspect of the story was brilliant. I only wished I had the next book on hand so I could dive straight into that one!

EYES WIDE OPEN was a game changer for me. It changed how I felt about Ethan and it made me fall heads over heels in love with this series. This book has heart – lots of it!

The only sense I didn’t use as she came apart was that of speech. There were no words to describe her, nor were there ones I could coherently form in the moment; she was a work of art, and I was speechless.”

Don’t be fooled by the short length, Lilley knows just what to do with it. These pages are scorching! ~ Under the Covers

Immediately after finishing GROUNDED, the last book in the Up In the Air series I jumped into this novella. I just couldn’t bear to leave this world just yet. Lilley had created some phenomenal characters that I cannot help but want to learn more of.

LANA turned out to be more than I expected. At just under 100 pages, it’s a short read but holy hell, does it light things up! I loved Lana’s flirtatious manner and the way she went for Akira. No longer the virgin he once knew, Lana shows him just how much she has grown up since last seeing him.

Akira (who is Jason Momoa in my mind) feels guilty for “taking advantage” of her. Their age difference is what makes him regret their time together but, Akira always seems to forget that Lana was the one who seduced him.

In a hotter than hell encounter, sparks reignite and don’t settle down until the very last page. Don’t be fooled by the short length, Lilley knows just what to do with it. These pages are scorching!

    Here’s my Akira (Jason Momoa)!

The ending is a good one, but getting there was just a rough ride for me. ~ Under the Covers

This is a book that has quite a lot of buzz. It had all the elements that pique my curiosity – A rock star hero, a vulnerable heroine and a Contemporary setting. However, I found it very hard to connect with the characters. And I’m still not sure why.

Dahlia London has experienced something that had drastically changed her life. It should have made me feel for her, but for some reason, I didn’t hold that connection with her character. When she meets River Wilde, the singer for The Wilde Ones again, that ember from the past burns into a flame.

Again, River had all the smooth moves but they completely flew by me. I think for me, it was the dialogue that threw me off. It failed to hold my attention. Sometimes I thought the lines were cheesy making me roll my eyes instead of making me swoon. I have no question that there is chemistry between characters, but in some cases, I thought it was focused on too much. I didn’t feel it bloom into something greater. It was always just there, stagnant and never moving.

Also, there was too much inner monologue, going over the same details again and again. I find it very difficult to read a POV from a character that you have no connection to.

That being said, it took me awhile to read this book. I heard that the ending was amazing so I kept at it until I got there. People were right. The ending is a good one, but getting there was just a rough ride for me.

I’ve read Rhyannon’s paranormal romances in the past and have always enjoyed her worlds, full of action and sexy characters. I was very excited to pick this one up because of that, and of course being the cover whore that I am, because that cover is great!

But then we get to the story and although it had a lot of sizzle, it ran a bit out of steam for me. First things first, I actually liked the premise of the story. Reese is the good girl who marries the hot shot guy, but he never quite made her feel comfortable, or sexy for that matter. Now that she’s divorced and comes back to her hometown, sexy cop Ben who always had a crush on her, can put the moves on her.

Ben is a very sexy alpha. That type that exudes sex appeal and never wants to settle down, just have a good time and have every woman he wants, no caring that he may leave a trail of heartbreak behind him.

Reese was a bit too naive for me, but then she would act completely out of character and want to have an affair. The whole thing didn’t ring believable. Or course, considering sexy Ben, or sex with Ben, I may have done some personality adjustments myself. But in the end, they were hot when getting busy but I didn’t click with them as characters as much as I wanted to.

Then there’s the suspense element. I think I would’ve liked to see this developed a bit more in the book. It was almost a childish afterthought. Being that this is the DANGEROUS TIDES series, I wanted some real danger. But this was a lot more subtle in that element.

I do think this group of sexy Florida men will keep my interest and I’ll read the next book in this series!

Tempted into Danger is totally wicked!!! This novel has the Bad Boys(part2) feel to it with a hint of Bourne Supremacy. It is non-stop action, suspense and an exceptional storyline

Vanessa Crosby who knows more than she should, stuck her nose where it did not belong. And it will land her nothing but trouble. After all, her discovery is a top-notch case involving money laundering by Panama crime lords. Of course, something this big will not go unnoticed. She is immediately wanted by both government and the drug lords in question. Luckily, Diego Santero, a Black Ops Defender is assigned to secure Vanessa and her new intel. While Diego does a wonderful job keeping Vanessa alive, well, shit hits the fan when betrayals and trust become an issue

Diego is super hot with his military get up and tough guy persona. I love seeing alpha males of our time, they’re just so damn hot! His ability to bow down when needed, risking his life for the safety of his charge and the possessiveness he showed over Vanessa was just panty-droppingly sexy. I love that Diego is attracted to Vanessa who is not your typical hot, kick ass heroine but a simple, pretty enough gal with a brain like Einstein. And I have to admit, I admire her for having the balls for doing the right thing when she noticed a possibility of money laundering in the bank she worked for. I have to say that her advice about the “tissue rule” is the best advice there is. Diego and Vanessa’s interaction during their time together was stress inducing, no doubt. It was full of life threatening scenes such as explosions, shootings and surviving the Panamanian rainforest. Their time together was also a revelation finding love where they least expected.

I also enjoyed the interaction between the rest of the crew. The banters between the Black Ops team were great, but seriousness was there when definitely needed. I was eating up the military lingo Diego and his team used. The way Diego threw orders out and the way he said “roger that” just made me swoon all over him. Of course, as any military man, pain is just not accepted. So when you see these guys react to pain as if it was not there, is just too cute.

I instantly became a fan of Ms. Cutlers after reading her western novel, The Trouble with Cowboys. I can tell you right now that nothing has changed. She still has me under her spell and I was flat out enthralled with her writing. She excels in this genre as she does with her Western novel.

  • One Tiny Lie
    • Rated 4 stars

~Reviewed by FRANCESCA & posted at Under the Covers Book Blog

I was anxiously awaiting the release of ONE TINY LIE. The story of Livie, Kacey’s younger sister from TEN TINY BREATHS. After the emotional rollercoaster that book was and all the things Kacey had to go through with her parents death, nobody really focused on the marks that would leave on the impressionable young girl Livie was.

She seemed so strong and ready to face everything and anything, but inside she was hiding her own fears. It was interesting to see Livie’s emotional shell start to crumble as she opened herself up and experienced life. It was also bound to happen that she found herself attracted to a damaged guy.

Ashton is to die for sexy. The bad boy everyone warns you to stay away because he’ll break your heart. You may enjoy the ride but you know it’s going to end soon. But he is different with Livie. And when he cares for her and shows her, you can’t help but melt right along with her. Like they said in the book, it’s not the words, it’s the actions that let you know that someone loves you. And Ashton had plenty of those. Mixed in with plenty of ass moments. :)

I think Ashton and Livie were a perfect compliment for each other. They are both in much the same uncertain place in their lives where they have to figure out where to go from here. Livie has been following a pattern for her life of what she thought her parents would want for her. And realizing that is not really fitting her. Ashton has been also following a pattern for his life set by his father and trying to break free from that. I loved how they help each other find their way out of those blocks.

I was not too happy about the fact that there was a triangle. Well, you can’t really call it that because Livie never really cares for Connor and Connor never really shows much interest in my opinion. But I don’t like the cheating part so I would’ve rather not seen that element in the book. It added only a small level of drama that was really not all that necessary.

This story is different from TEN TINY BREATHS in the fact that it doesn’t pack as much of an emotional punch. It’s a story of self discovery and healing, but slow and easy, where the previous was more of a fast and hard wreck. Nevertheless, it is one of those stories that keeps you turning the pages, so involved in what’s happening and taking you along for the ride.

With a hero that is too good to be true, you’ll find yourself fanning yourself while falling deeper in love with Mr. James Cavendish. ~ Under the Covers

GROUNDED is the last book in the Up In the Air series and it is the perfect conclusion to all that James and Bianca have endured. Lilley ties up all loose ends while also creating the perfect happily-ever-after for them. The epilogue in particular was really nice to read.

But let me start at the beginning of this book. Bianca and James are trying hard to make their relationship work. However, with a killer out there hoping to get Bianca next, James is a little more protective of her. That being said, James feels different in this book. He is constantly on edge. He isn’t as easy-going or cracking those charming remarks. His girl is being targeted and James takes the threat seriously. For a lot of the first half of the book, James takes on the role of protector. He is more stern, more forceful and that brings out the Dom in him as well.

The sex further explores the BDSM lifestyle. It also explores punishment. While not extreme, it still makes an impact because of the emotion that Lilley puts into the scenes. I love that even though this is an erotic book, it simply isn’t about the sex. There is emotion as well and I think that’s what sets this series apart from others of the same kind.

Another constant love of mine has been Stephen. His presence is absolutely crucial to this storyline and James knows just how important he is to Bianca. They share something that nobody can ever touch, not even James. And rather than being jealous of it, James embraces it, going as far as buying a new home for Stephen that is right beside theirs so that he is close whenever Bianca needs him. I LOVE THAT ABOUT HIM. It just screams his undying love for Bianca while also showing readers that he doesn’t see Stephen as a threat, whether gay or not. I don’t think this book would have been as great if it weren’t for Stephen. He’s simply amazing.

Other characters come to the forefront as well. Lana, whom I love makes a few appearances. I cannot wait to read her novella next. There is also the introduction of Tristan and Danika, who are very intriguing characters. Tristan is one of those heroes who had so much charisma on the page. I am dying to get to know him more. And Danika? I really want to know why she is limping. I’m hoping that gets addressed in the spin off, BAD THINGS.

GROUNDED turned out to be the perfect ending for a stellar series. If you are looking for a series similar in tone to the Crossfire series, then I would definitely recommend the Up In the Air series to those readers. With a hero that is too good to be true, you’ll find yourself fanning yourself while falling deeper in love with Mr. James Cavendish.
