"You will find that Tyrannio has made a wonderful job of arranging my books."
- Marcus Tullius Cicero, Letters to Atticus
I am a librarian. I have forever loved books and the idea of books.
Science fiction is my literary comfort food, but when I feast (not often enough), I prefer modern literature. I read science - mostly natural history, linguistics, and mathematics - when I feel like eating healthy. And for dessert, poetry, always.
As for favorite authors, Kurt Gödel's mind is one of those places I love to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. Schopenhauer is my destination for philosophical pleasures. Le Guin is like always coming home. Maugham's a week on the beach: thoughtful, yet relaxing. Wallace Stevens remains my most exotic port of call.
And to make sure I'm not mixing metaphors, I'll note that in magazines and newspapers and on the web, I very much enjoy food and travel writing.
