My mother is an avid reader and as such she encouraged us, me and my sister, to be avid readers as well. Luckily she was successful in that and we both now have book collections of our own and we three are now constantly trading and recommending books to each other.

My mother's book collection is probably currently the biggest personal collection I've ever seen so she's often like my own personal library since I have her lifetime of books to work my way through.

The first serious adult-like book, besides the simple kid books she bought us, was a C.S. Lewis novel - The Magician's Nephew. It was an old moldy looking green book with no title or image on the front cover other than a black ink drawing in the lower right hand corner of a tall frazzle-haired looking man with his back to you in the process of entering a door (as if entering the book cover). It didn't look very interesting to me and I wasn't very enthusiastic about it. It turned out to probably be one of the best books she could have chosen as my first. I'll never forget how thrilled I felt by it and how excited I was as I read it. There began a life-long love of books for me.

You'll not only find books on my shelves but also comic books and graphic novels which is an extension and combination of my two book and drawing loves that began at the age of 19. I currently own and collect over 400 comic books and graphic novels, some special editions, some signed and numbered. « less
