The main character was not likeable but what came across was his rage, the unfairness of his life and the overall corruption in his country. It was a powerful book.

I just loved this book. This is the first one I’ve given five stars to this year. It’s June right now. I liked the epistolary style of it, the characters, the sadness of the World War II setting, and the hint of romance in it. Sure, there were flaws (couldn’t keep track of who was who at all times) but I didn’t care. At the end of it, it made me want to read some of the classics mentioned that I haven’t read. But most of all, loved the happy ending.
