Twinkley

Hi, I’m a married mother of 2 boys.

I'm also a career changer who is done with her first year of teaching high school English. Woohoo!

I love to read (mostly fiction) and talk about books as well. I've been obsessed with reading from the 1001 Books to Read Before You Die but I might take a break from that during the... more »

Hi Twinkley. It's great to hear from you. The summer is going well so far - I'm taking a week and a half off for vacation, starting next week. Not really going anywhere though, I'm just going to take it easy.

Reading-wise I read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on Saturday - it was an excellent end to the series, but I'm still sad it's all over. Are you a Harry Potter fan? I'm reading a book called The Plague Tales right now. It's part historical fiction/ part thriller. It's pretty good. How about you? Any big summer plans? What are you reading?

Hi there. I hope all is well. I did enjoy the book, but not as muh as the first three. I definitely agree that the people Samwell was speaking with at the Citadel were suspicious. Anytime a character says "you musn't discuss this with the others" I think something is going on. I checked Martin's website yesterday and there is still no news regarding the release of the next book.

I'm still reading Eyre Affair. I don't really know how to describe it, but I am enjoying it. I read the Handmaid's Tale in high school. I thought it was excellent.

I finished!!!!! Here is my theory - Maester Aemon mentioned a prophecy about the return of a dragon prince. Although at the end of the book he thinks the prophecy refers to a princess (Dany) rather than a prince. I, however, think the prophecy refers to Jon Snow (keeping with my theory that he is Rheagar's son). What do you think? I'm glad Martin mentioned that the next book will focus on the characters we know well, and I'm very glad Cersei is in trouble. I wonder when the next book will be out?

Hi. I think I'll have to give Deborah Crombie a try one of these days. I do like Elizabeth George, although I did not like the ending of With No One As Witness. Have you read it yet? I'm still not finished A Feast for Crows. Game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals is on tonight so I'll likely watch that instead of reading. I live here in Ottawa and since the Senators are in the Cup finals, the city is going absolutely crazy. I'm not a Senators fan myself, but it's hard not to get caught up in all the excitement.

Hi. I was hoping to finish the book today, but, so far, I haven't actually done much reading (I spent the afternoon watching the Indy 500). I only have a little over one hundred pages to go, so I should finish it by tomorrow night (I hope - I'm ready to read something else now). What is the new book you're reading about?

Hi Twinkley. I haven't finished the book yet - maybe tomorrow. I also think Jamie will be the one to kill Cersei. It seems he is coming to realize Cersei's true nature to a greater extent than before, and he doesn't like it. I'm enjoying the book, but have to agree that I don't like the introduction of all these new characters. I want to know what is happening with all the people we spent the first three books getting to know. The next book better include most, if not all, of them. Have you heard the theory that Jon Snow is actually the son of Ned Stark's sister and Prince Rheagar? Reading this book has me thinking that too. Once we both finish we'll have to discuss where we think things are headed.

On another note, I was also disappointed with what happened to Charlie. I do wonder, however, if he really is dead. I hope not. I didn't like the flash forward either. Mostly cause it makes Jack's future look not so rosy... plus I want him to get together with Kate and the flash forward indicates they won't be together :-( Lots of questions still remain, but I do think it was an excellent finale. I just wish we didn't have to wait until 2008 to find out what happens next!

Hi. I've managed to make it to page 600. Cersei just keeps getting more evil. I wish something good would happen to my favourite characters for once! I really wonder how everything is going to turn out for everyone, and realize I'm probably going to have to wait a few more books to find out :-( I don't think I'm going to get much additional reading done this evening - I have to watch the season finale of Lost!!

I forgot to answer your question about what I'm going to read next. I'm planning on reading Jasper Fforde's The Eyre Affair. Have you read it? What are you planning to read next?

Hi again. I hope your son had a great 2nd birthday! I have a 13mth old daughter - I just love the age she is at now because she is getting more and more interactive. I just love watching her discover new things!

I'm on page 335 now. I agree that Cersei is evil. I used to think Jamie was evil too, but the further into this book I get, the more my opinion of him changes. Guess we'll have to see how everything turns out. I'm still disappointed that there isn't more information on the Starks, especially since they're my favs. I would have liked to know more about what Bran has been up to behind the Wall. For some reason, I think the person he rode off with might be his Uncle Benjen. Any thoughts?

Hi. I hope your final went well.

I've managed to read up to page 175 so far. I would have gotten farther if not for the fact that I spent all last night watching TV. I'm also having a hard time remembering some of the finer details from the previous books, even though I only read them a few months ago. Tyrion did kill Tywin, after Jamie released him from his cell. I am enjoying the book even though my favourite characters don't seem to be in it.

Hi. I thought Owen Meany was a good book, but felt it could have been much shorter.

I've read a little of Feast for Crows too! What do you think so far? I'm a little disappointed that it doesn't seem as if many of the principal characters from the first three books are going to be prominently featured in this one.

Did you hear HBO is going to be making a series about this saga? Not sure when it will actually start to air, but I can't wait!

Hi Twinkley! Are your classes all finished now? You must be quite happy!!!

I'll be ready to go with A Feast of Crows on the 14th. I'm still reading A Prayer for Owen Meany. I can't believe how long it is taking me to read it. I like it but, since I'm on week two of reading it, I'm definitely ready to move on to something else :-)

    Hello Caribbean Lit group member.

We are planning a group read and we have four options for what book to choose. We hope you will join the group read, but first we need you to vote on which book you would like to read. The four choices are:

    1. Edwidge Danticat -- Dewbreaker
    2. Andrea Levy -- Small Island
    3. The Heart Does Not Bend - Makeda Silvera
    4. Chutney Power -- Willi Chen

Please cast your vote on the thread specifically related to the vote. Simply put the title of the book you have chosen. We will canvass votes in one week's time, that is, on Thursday May 17, and announce the winner. Then we will have until the end of June to read the book and we can start discussing it in detail.

Please spread this to anyone else you think might be interested in this group activity.

We look forward to your vote and to this group's first group read!
