*Toured the Dominican Republic the past three summers with a group of teachers. We are part of a coalition of educators called "Friends Beyond Borders" and we interviewed Haitian sugar cane workers, visited an AIDS orphanage, facilitated activities with teens living in a batey, spoke with civil rights activist Sonia Pierre, and met the legendary Dede Mirabal from the famous novel, "In the Time of the Butterflies."

*Recently began my 11th year teaching at a middle school in New Jersey.
