To-read

I read books. I'm an archaeologist. Archaeologists like to sort stuff. Hence: shelfari.com.

The databases for groups shelves as the ones for our personal shelves. I write the information of the books as posts to one discussion. One "discussion entry" for a book I have but there was nothing in the databases:
Perennials, by the Editors of Better Homes and Gardens Special Interest Publications. No ISBN, Spring 2006, 120 p. col. ill.,
Des Moines, IA, Meredith Publishing Group. Owned by DL. Some tags: non-fiction, #ddl, gardens, gardening, flowers, landscaping,

I used to be a librarian so listing the details of the book is something I've done for most of my life.

    I hope this helps.

How to make your own personal, no one else can join, "Group":
Click on the Groups tab. On the left side of the page (Across from "My Groups") is + Start a New Group. Click on this.

The "Create a New Group" page comes up. Here you give a Group Name, Group Category and Group Description. You will need a unique name and I suggest you use something a little odd (In case something goes wrong somewhere and you have to search for it. I don't remember what Category I used, but I don't much think it matters since its only for you. If you want to copy my description, my "group" is Dash's Undiscovered Country. You can add the description later, if you want to do that. Now press the "Create My Group" button.

Now is the critical part. Your Group is created. On the left column on the page are the "access controls".
Who can Join? You want to set it to "Only Invitees". That way, someone can't add themselves to the group.
Who Can See? This is up to you.
Who Can Invite? This you must set to "Only Administrators". This way, you control everyone who can add discussions to the group. I've chosen to have mine be access to me only, you may want to allow others, but you want to fully control who.

The reason for the control of who contributes discussions is because that is where you write the information to your books.

I've chosen to not bother with the other stuff, since its irrelevant to my group. You can decide on your own. HOWEVER, having gone to all this work, I suggest you do NOT click on the button for "Delete Group" or you'll have to start all over again.

I created these instructions as I went through and created a test group so I could be thorough with you. Now *I will* hit the Delete Group button so I don't clutter up the database.

    Good Luck!
