Jen

I read just about everything. My tastes most often lean toward mystery, fantasy, paranormal romance, science fiction and historical fiction. My mother is to blame for my love of books and the Blizzard of 1978 is to blame for my love of Dame Agatha Christie.

I live near Indianapolis, am a teacher by degree, a stay-at-home mom by choice,... more »

Welcome to 1001 books. You can keep track of the books you have read from the book, 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die, join in the discussions on the books we are reading for the month (BOTM) or you can debate the merits of the list as some enjoy doing. We hope you will want to join in the choosing of BOTM and the discussions. The current books are pinned to the top for that month. There are older discussions that can be found by searching discussions. If there is any way the group administrator can help further feel free to ask one of us. If you don’t own the book the list can be found at the top in the group description or at http://www.listology.com/content_show.cfm?content_id=22845. A downloadable list of the second edition is available at http://johnandsheena.co.uk/books/?page_id=160.

Thanks for your kind words. I only write academic papers and lectures, which are of interest only to folks in my field and my students, and sometimes I'm not so sure about either of those. . . (laughs)
    Happy reading, fellow knitter!

    The Question

    (Karla Kuskin)

    People always say to me
"What do you think you'd like to be
    When you grow up?"
    And, I say, "Why,
I think I'd like to be the sky
Or a plane or train or mouse
Or maybe be a haunted house
Or something furry, rough and wild...
Or maybe I will stay a child."

I don't have just one favorite historical romance author. I have--probably half a dozen. Laura Kinsale tops the list (although she doesn't write fast enough), because her books have such wonderful characters with emotional depth. They're wonderfully flawed characters. Loretta Chase and Liz Carlyle are both autobuy authors for me (Hmmm--LK, LC, LC... Lisa Kleypas is on this list too--think there's a theme here?), for the same reasons. I just love their characters, and they're not always the same. I love Mary Balogh--her stories are lighter, and yet full of fabulous emotion. Lots of fabulous dialogue. Let's see--I'll put Lydia Joyce on this list. Dang--that's my half dozen, and I haven't even mentioned Julia Quinn or Jo Beverley or Edith Layton or Eloisa James. Those are the authors whose books I'll buy just because their names are on the cover. They just drag me into their worlds and let me lose myself there. (I've really liked the latest books by Suzanne Enoch and Elizabeth Hoyt and Victoria Alexander too--I read a lot. I have to have a lot of favorites!)
