Cheryl Lans

Cheryl Lans did her MSc in Ecological Agriculture at Wageningen University in the Netherlands and her PhD in Social Sciences at the same University. Cheryl Lans did her MSc in Ecological Agriculture at Wageningen University in the Netherlands and her PhD in Social Sciences at the same University. Her PhD research was on Ethnoveterinary medicine in Trinidad and Tobago. Cheryl was visiting faculty in Sociology at the University of Victoria from 2002 - 2005. In that capacity Cheryl conducted research under the leadership of Dr Nancy Turner and Dr Gerhard Brauer on medicinal herbs used for animal health in BC. Cheryl taught a course for the Dept of Anthropology in Summer 2003 on Veterinary Anthropology and Creolization. Cheryl also taught History of Food for the History Department in Winter/Spring 2004 and Winter/Spring 2005. She also taught Science Gender and Agriculture for the Women’s Studies Department in Summer 2004. Cheryl worked on various projects for the British Columbia Institute for Cooperative Studies (BCICS) and conducted research investigating female leadership in selected co-operatives in British Columbia.

Cheryl was funded by SSHRC (Social Science and Humanities Research Council) to do postdoctoral research in co-operative studies and alternative agriculture under the supervision of Dr. Ian MacPherson and started this research in July 2003.
