What a fabulous novel. Set just after WWII in Guernsey, a British island in the English Channel that had been occupied by the Germans for 5 years during the war, it is told almost entirely in letters. The characters are endearing, the story delightful. I was desolate when it ended. (It reminded me in a way of 84, Charing Cross Road by Helene Hanff, another book I love.)

What a marvelous YA book that can be enjoyed by adults too. It gives a vivid taste of the Florence of the late 1400s under the Medici family. It is hard to believe this is the author's first book.

While I've only made one item from this book so far (the Back to School U-Neck Vest), it was a real pleasure to knit. The errata page on Stefanie Japel's site helped, but there seem to be a few additional errors not mentioned on the errata page. Next up is the Boatneck Bluebell Sweater. There is a nice Knitalong at http://yarncrawl.typepad.com/fittedknitsalong/
