You're welcome Trisha. I never been towards that area before.
*six to eight books daily
I do think you can tell a lot, not only by the titles they've read, but by their opinions of the books they've read. For example, I've read all of The Sun Also Rises only because it was a very short book and felt that I might as well finish it. In reality, it was a waste of my time. I began The Old Man and the Sea and realized it was just as bad. I did not finish it and have no intention of reading another Hemmingway. Ever! I've loved everything I've ever read by Steinbeck except Cannery Row, which had not one single character I could like. Take this bit of info and you will know that I sometimes give second chances. I'm not afraid to disagree with public opinion about a popular author. I don't pretend to like an author because it's expected or the correct opinion. Even Steinbeck had this dud, Cannery Row, but that doesn't mean I don't love all the rest of his work. I have a Shelfari friend who adds six to eight books to her "I've read" list. This tells me volumes about her! She wants to have the biggest shelf, she doesn't digest what she reads, probably just browses through the books, and has to be just a tad OCD! I've also noticed that she rates but doesn't review books and has no favorites. How can you have no favorites? Are they really all just words to her? Disturbing...
Happy Valentine's Day and may love always be in your heart and mind. Your friend, Skip
Readers anon is down for repairs... bummer. I'm excited about your mother-in-law joining our circle! I just realized yesterday that I haven't yet responded to the "introductions." I must've revised my profile instead! lol Anyway, I'll post to that forum soon so y'all can really get to know me. I think learning what others think about books is very telling, how 'bout you?
Hi Trisha,I just joined Reader's Anonymous and saw your link to Shelfari. I have been thrilled with this site. I especially like that you can download your shelf into an excel program. I look forward to discussing books. Happy New Year!!
If I have to read ALL of THESE 1001 books before I die, I've just discovered the secret to immortality! Hemmingway is not my cup of tea; I've read The Sun Also Rises. The only reason I didn't stop after the third chapter is that that put me almost halfway through the book and I felt obligated to complete it. Generally though, I'll give a book three chapters to grab me...if it hasn't, I grab the next book. I'd estimate that I finish 99% of the books I start. I will read most of these books, but Old Man and the Sea won't be one of them! I used to own War and Peace, but it was too much for me. I'm willing to give it another shot...my reading tastes have changed since 1976! lol I don't object to the newish stuff on the list, but I noticed a few gay and lesbian books that may not suit all. Like you, I'm taking the list as reading recommendations.
Cool shelf! Wow, beginning War and Peace is quite an undertaking! I just joined 1001 books last week. I love reading a wide variety. I've sent you a friend request. Perhaps we'll inspire each other!
