Hi, I know this sounds sort of odd but I've accidentally started about five of the same discussion on the Writing Readers group! Double sorry! Since you are an admin, could you please delete all except one of them? It's called Character Resume. Thanks!

you've read "Fear" by L. Ron Hubbard, right? So, I'm confused, did he kill his wife and friend in those 4 hours? Sorry to bother you.

    Hello, Brendan.

We have a fun free website (www.storycasting.com) where readers can create and post a "fantasy cast" for their favorite fiction. Readers select a work they've read, choose main characters, and then fill the roles from our online database of current movie and TV stars.

We also offer a special free "author account", where authors come on the site, cast their own works "authoritatively", and then send their fans to cast. Each cast is a vote for an actor in that role, and with each cast the favorites rise to the top.

If you give me an 85-word synopsis for Harvey, we'll put your work on the site, and you can have people "cast" it. Might be useful feedback on how your characters are perceived.

If you'd like your free author account, so that your fans can see your highlighted casts and posts, let me know, and we'll get you set up.

We hope you enjoy the site, and decide to join the Storycasting community of casting authors.

    Regards,

    Jeff Reid

    Hi Brendan,

Would love to send you a copy of my two novels for you to review for the group - if you would like to read them send me you address and I can post them to you. I thought this better than going in for self promotion on the discussion page - it's not my style.

Below is a review of my first novel by an author I met through myspace - hope this gives you some encouragement to read my work.

    Regards Paul

Garry Charles is - THE NEW CROWN PRINCE OF FANTASY/HORROR,

Author of the following novels published by Hadesgate:

    'Heaven's Falling - Ascension' & 'Heaven's Falling - Redemption'

Garry has some outstanding reviews and has been touted as the next Stephen King no less!

    Review:

Before I go on to review EXTINCTION I must make it perfectly clear that I am not a fan of sci-fi as a genre. Over the years only a few novels have stood out for me.

Taking this into consideration you may well wonder why I would offer to review something I probably wouldn't enjoy.

My only reason is 'MYSPACE.' Through this wondrous form of networking I came across EXTINCTION and the blurb stood out as something slightly different.

Well I have to complain right now that the blurb is misleading. It just doesn't do justice to the story that PAUL MCKENZIE has created. Whatever I thought I was expecting was totally out surpassed by what MCKENZIE delivered.

This debut author has crafted a future Europe where children are bred in medical centres and women are on the endangered list. Men control the power and sex is nothing but a long forgotten myth.

The future is not bright. The future is grey.

Only a small handful of women still fight back and the trouble starts when something very important to both sides is unwittingly stolen.

To try and tell you more could get confusing because there is so much more to EXTINCTION than meets the eye.

It cleverly blends sci-fi/thriller and high-octane action in such a way that I could picture it as a SPEILBERG movie along the lines of MINORITY REPORT.

The story twists through the intrigue and gunfights with a fluid ease and try as I might I could not dislike this tale of superiority gone mad.

The action scenes - and believe me there are a lot of them - really shine for me as a lover of fast paced narrative. You can almost hear each gunshot and feel each blow of a clenched fist.

There is however - a little let down during these scenes of violent mayhem. It's nothing too bad, but during the action the POV changes with the speed of an MTV video (nothing wrong with that I say) and these quick cuts would have benefited from clear paragraph breaks to make things a little easier for the reader.

That aside this is a very good piece of action-orientated sci-fi that deserves a readership.

My list of sci-fi favourites may be short but EXTINCTION has easily earned its place near the top.

If PAUL MCKENZIE can keep doing this he won't go far wrong.

Try Everville by Clive Barker. It's my favorite from him, but that's probably b/c I'm 'just a girl.'

    Hi Brendan,

The problem with reading a writer like Mieville is that very few writers match his brilliance.

I always recommend Jeff VanderMeer's 'Veniss Underground' and Paul DiFilippo's 'A Year in the Linear City' to my reading buddies who enjoy China Mieville.

    Later,
    Nancy
