  • Dutch 3: The Finale By: Kwame Teague (Teri Woods)
    • Rated 5 stars

“The Dutch triology is finally here!! It takes you through NJ, NY, MIAMI, HARLEM, PARIS, and France, where it captures the political turmoil of the forces. Dutch and his crew reunite to do one final big job that will make The Month Of Murder a month not to be reckoned with. Will Dutch mother, Delores and his long lost father Bernard Sr. reunite or is there still hidden secrets that still need to be revealed? Is Roc fighting a one man war w/in himself? Will he give everything up and find out who he really is at heart or will he stay down for the team?? Will it be Dutch and Nina forever or Dutch and Angel?? Uh oh there's still Godilocks, but you know as they say three's a crowd. Well the questions will finally be answered because the BLACK OUT is finally here!!!! This is a story that will capture you from page one, giving you vivid pictures of a beautiful France. It gives the reader some knowledge of insight history that transforms in our times of today. The story is a convincingly told fiction, but the true power of this book is that it will linger in your mind even after your done reading. ”

2 Stars because of the editing. Typos was horrible, but it had a good plot.

I purchased the beige cover version of the book, and it was so awful to read the chapters kept repeating themselves, misspelled words, words running into each other,synonms,run-on words, different versions of the same chapters, previous chapters that was already read in other chapters, paragraphs that kept repeating the whole page,etc.... try to find the copy of the blue/black book maybe that is better!! I will never buy a book from this author again.

  • Harlem Godfather: The Rap on my Husband, Ellsworth

America's True Gangster Mr. Bumpy Johnson Thank You Mrs. Johnson for sharing this true to heart story about Bumpy Johnson with alot of history intertwined. I looked at American Gangster and Hollywood have it all wrong. From reading this book about Bumpy's life, I feel that he helped pave the way and made Harlem what it is to this day, and his legend still lives thru Harlem. This story was told from his childhood years until his last days. I felt I truly knew Bumpy Johnson when I read the book, but while reading, I wished I had not only knew Mr. Johnson, but I wished only for a glimpse of The Harlem Godfather. This book is told thru his wife's voice, and it was no fairy tale, but it was told from the heart of a woman who loved him the most. I not only learned about Bumpy, but I learned about others such as Lena Horne, Bill "Bojangles", Lucky Luciano, Flash Walker (who Frank Lucas so wanted his life to be) and Billie Holiday. I was the most amazed at how a young little boy from the south that came to Harlem and took over. I also have to give Bumpy his credit whatever he went thru or did, he still loved his people and did his time like a true man and snitching wasn't even in his vocabulary. Thanks Mrs. Mayme Johnson and Karen E. Quinones from setting the record straight for all of America. Thanks for educating me on a part of American History of Bumpy Johnson, and telling me a story that I will will always know who the real Bumpy Johnson really was from his start until that last tear from my eyes to the end of the book!! Bumpy Johnson, Harlem's and America's True Gangster R.I.P. !!

  • Sistah for Sale: A Novel
    • Rated 5 stars

Revenge Starts With Sienna (token), Sienna's father died a brutal death and her mother was taken away right before her eyes at the tender age of 5 years old. A man named Chatman rescues Sienna and raises her with the help of some of his top mistress, but nothing could replace the love of her father and mother until Ryan comes along. Growing up in a house full of call girls, Sienna wants to be the next top mistress, until she learns of a crippling secret Chatman has hidden from her all the years which caused her unbearable pain. Sienna steps up her game and the object of course is revenge and freedom. Sistah For Sale, captures so much truth in the practice of slave trade. The story line flowed smoothly. I was emotionally drawn into the story and found myself angry and sad at the same time. This was my first read by this author and Miasha has made me a fan and I will definately read her other work.

  • Laying Down My Burdens

Brenda L. Thomas was the poster child for domestic abuse, drug addiction, low self-esteem, and a man who threatened her to not write anymore or there were going to be dire consequences. For years she struggled with these ghost who got the best of her, and took a toll on her whole family. Time after time this author vowed to do better and put these ghost to rest, but time after time she willingly gave in and gave up her soul. Caution, this story is not for the faint at heart, it's going to stir you up in every way possible, have you in awe, and still ask yourself how could a person live thru this and still live to tell about it.

Brenda L. Thomas has the right title, "Laying Down My Burdens". After the author tells the h*%# she been thru and back, time and time again, it was time to lay those burdens down. There was some minor editing problems, but it will not deter you from one single minute of the pain and abuse this author went thru, or mess up the life story she told.

Three girls who go through terrible mishaps in life end up as orphans at a young age. Elise, Aparis, and LaKiesha all had goals and dreams as being teen girls, but instead they found themselves going through terrible mishaps and left without family. A bond was formed and 3 orphans became 3 hard go get sisters. An organization was formed and hustling on the mean streets of Cleveland became a way of life and survival was the key. Ruling was left to Elise the head of the organization that kept things together. From beat-downs, dealing with snitches, murders, and even falling in love, these 3 was unstoppable, and the game they played was by their rules only. If you dare go against them there was repercussions that would soon follow. Thinking they had the world in their hands, no matter how hard they tried to forget the painful mishaps that orphned them wouldn't let them forget, and putting the past ghost away forever becomes their only way of escape. Mistress Of The Game is a ride or die diva book. It forces one to look at their life and think anything can happen at anytime and change your life forever. Each character was well developed and one could easily identify with their misfortunes. I found myself applauding these diva's because they each had their own excuses for doing what they had to do to survive. At times I also found myself wishing there was more action. It was a very good book for this author's first novel and I would recommend it. Token787

A young teen who was sexually abused at the age of 16 by her stepfather, which ultimately led to his demise, turned a little bag of $20 weed into millions. This gangstress had life by the horns and controlled most of Washington D.C. major drugs whether coming in or out, from east to west, north or south. Murder, corrupt police, dirty politicians, and gang warfare, and killings of notorious drug lords was only the beginning of the list of bloodshed that D.C. had to endure. What took Washington D.C. in awe was a cold-hearted diva, with an iron fist, ride or die attitude, a heart that pumped vengeance for blood, and reported to have one of the largest criminal organizations in Washington was ruled by one the most hard-core women, that revolutionized drugs on the way of the streets of Chocolate City was a woman called Katrina Ricks.

I think the author tried too hard to develop the the main female character as a hard core diva. The slang used and the events portrayed seem to be too over the top. I did find this story to start off slow and take awhile to get into, but if you keep reading the plot start to unfold and the story gets incresingly interesting.
