“ISLAND BEAUTY is the best piece Marlene have ever written. She have really matured as a writer. I think it would even make a good movie. There is great suspense and conflict. Marlene shows life and how it really is, even when we think we have good friendships, life can throw us a curve ball. I really enjoyed reading her story it was great, the tone was good and it was exciting. Keep up the good work!”

I've just finished Harriet and Isabella, historical fiction about Harriet Beecher Stowe and her sister, Isabella (a suffragist) in the period 1872-1887 when her father, Henry Beecher, famous liberal Methodist minister, scandalized the family with an inappropriate relationship with a parishoner. Absolutely wonderful book, extremely well written and sensitive.

One of my all time faves is Kevin Baker's PARADISE ALLEY ... about America's most violent revolution (1863?), an uprising of poor Irish and African Americans. If you've not read it put it high on a list for "next books"
