I adore John Fowles and his novels. Daniel Martin is a rather thick and long read, but an interesting glimpse into the life of his character. The small details about daily life are captivating.

I have a fondness for novels and movies of the Victorian era because of this novel. Fowles' characters are compelling, making the story even better.

Talk about a head trip! The Magus is in novel form what the first season of Lost was for TV, except more psychologically thrilling.

The Collector is one of my all-time favorite novels. John Fowles' writing is so detailed and amazing. The book is split into three sections, the first and third are the perspective of the collector and the middle section is that of the collectee. The writing is so good that I even felt bad for the collector and thought the collectee was ungrateful and rude. To invoke those feelings towards a kidnapped girl is not something many can pull off.

  • Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Book 2)

I just adore this book. The small differences between it and the movie make it an enjoyable read after viewing the film. I look forward to my next journey into the world of Harry Potter.

  • Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Book 1)

Of course this is an absolutely charming read. I saw the first five movies before finally caving in to read any of the books and I'm glad I did. The subtle things left out create an even more colorful portrait of Harry Potter and Hogwarts. It made me go ahead and buy the rest of the books so I can read them without delay.

  • The Pact: A Love Story

This is the first Jodi Picoult I've read and I plan on reading more. However, with the emotional intensity I need some light reading before I delve into another. I've heard she has good twists in her books, however nothing in The Pact seemed like a twist to me. But that it didn't feel like that to me made it more real and therefore I was wrapped up in the emotions in the novel all the more.

  • Good in Bed

Good In Bed is ok. It starts off with promise of a hefty girl making good. She gets the interview, gets a script turned into a movie, and makes new friends. But then it goes to a very dark, depressing place and stays there for a long time. Eventually it turns all light and happy again, but not soon enough or high enough to completely save this book for me. It was a quick read and a good one for the pool because you can put it down and pick it up easily.

  • The Picture of Dorian Gray: Authoritative Texts Backgrounds Reviews and Reactions Criticism (Norton Critical Edition)
    • Rated 3 stars

I'm not sure what to say about Dorian Gray, I neither loved it nor disliked it. It simply was for me. It wasn't a chore to read, but neither was it a joy. I think the matter of fact way that Dorian Gray sells his soul for vanity makes it chilling to where it isn't some treasured glimpse into a fictional world but more a reflection of the world around us. Perhaps that is why I neither loved it nor hated it.

  • A Million Little Pieces
    • Rated 4 stars

I read the book because of the hubbub about it being a lie. I wanted to see if I could figure it out and anyone with a brain can know it's been embellished. If it were straight truth, it wouldn't have been a good read. Instead, the exaggerations help you see how messed up the mind of an addict can be and how each person's journey to recovery is different.
