finally got around to reading the Hunger Games. Consumed them one after the other and each took only two days, worked around little things like feeding my family, walking the dog and, um, sleep. I can't wait until the movie comes out!
I've been meaning to tell you that I read The Forgotten Garden over Christmas break. It's long, but I really liked it--and it would be a great book club discussion.
I could not put it down. It's hard to comprehend those trials are a part of our history. I have been meaning to research the fate of the girls who did the accusing. I literally started scratching my head when I read the prison scene! We will be discussing the book in January. Do you have any new recommendations?
Did you read The Hunger Games?
Hey there. I downloaded a copy to my Nook. I think Jennifer Howell bought the book. I will send her a note and ask if she is finished.
not a fan of Piccoult either so I feel your pain! Twisted Fairy tales...I love anything edited by Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling as part of their Fairy Tale series. In particular, check out Briar Rose or any of the short story collections. I added Grimm to my list last week by stalking your shelf!
Tiffanythe move was horrid! Well, the drive was great and we visited friends, but the movers were terrible and the packing was the worst we have ever had - more damage than ever before! Oh well. Love Colorado! I am still on the book club list so I see what you guys are reading!btw, The Art of Racing in the Rain? Excellent book and it will make you cry! Miss you guys!
I just could not get through it. I just finished Awake in the Dark. It's a collection of short stories. You may like it. A somber read, but I still enjoyed it. I have to go pick up Mockingjay this week. Tuesday night is our book club, and we are discussing Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet. Next month is A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. I read it in high school. Let me know when you find something great.
Hey, I love an ambitious reader. And I always look at your Shelf before I choose my next set of books!!
Wow, that "plan to read" shelf is huge! Good luck. :)
Tiffany,My first book club meeting is next Wednesday. We are The Literary Queens. :) Our first book is The Guernsey Literary. Will you give me some book recommendations? I believe our next choice is Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet. Now let me say, that the ladies in our group are quite conservative, and I need to find books that are not filled with tons of profanity. Is One Thousand White Women safe? thanks.
Yes, Storm Front is the first. I just finished Changes so if you work your way thru the series, you will probably be lucky enough to not have to wait for the follow up to Changes. Butcher left us hanging!
Hey Tiffany,I actually joined this site. I usually do not do things like this. My sister and I are having our first book club on June 23 "The Society of Literary Queens." I looked at your books and noticed that you have not read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society and These Is My Words. Both are beloved books. Did you like Shanghai Girls? I found that one yesterday. Thanks so much for recommending this site.
Oooh! I just started Still Alice today at the pool with the boys! It is amazing so far, and I cannot put it down. I should have known it would already be on your "read" list! btw, A Reliable Wife came up for me at the library so pass on to someone else who may still want it! thanks!
Someone else recommended the Outlander Series to me. I plan to read them! If you like historical novels, the Edward Rutherfurd books are very good.Aunt Judy
Thanks, Tiffany. It's available at Amazon for $10, but I didn't feel comfortable asking you to purchase it, especially since I'm hoping for a review. If you'd like the free e-book, e-mail me your e-mail address (mine is mail@christophertusa.com), and I'll send you the e-book.Thanks again,Chris
1000 White Women and The Help are 2 that our bookclub did and they were both good discussions. In fact, I think they had study guides and questions in the back. Both are great books and quick reads!
The Left Behind Series are very thought provoking. Fast read.Aunt Judy
