Aspiring librarian, currently at home mom, and foster mom. I used to work as a page at the local library system, but no time for that right now. I am still a one-woman library outreach worker- bringing books to those who need them!

Hey, I saw you reviewed "The Photographer." Is it amazing or what!? Sadly, I felt like a typical fat, lazy American reading it.

haven't read any of the books on your shelf currently but then, i haven't been reading any books for many years. i spend so much time either doing a whole bunch of stuff all the time with so many people, places, events or else i find myself in isolation but surrounded with my thoughts, time to read, but prefer to think. only since last month have i made the combined effort to both be social (mostly on facebook and email) as well as contemplative (early mornings and late nights) and also, read multiple books as I used to in my book-reading days of old. so that's how come "i'm reading" has several titles on my shelf... bye for now, and happy reading Michele...

I'm not sure why you thought of me in conjunction with babysitters either, but I put the book on hold just to scan it!

Hoping to enjoy "Shelf Discoveries" during furlough week in the San Juans...

"Nice waiting room," thought Doctor Ted. LOL! Will have to try this for preschool storytime if the group is right (there are always subtle changes with the new school year). Halloween heads-up: Goodnight Goon. I shared this during Summer Reading visits and the kids loved it. I believe the follow-up is Runaway Mummy (???).

Dear Aspiring Librarian: I am an aspiring author. My debut novel HUNTING THE KING came out in April. So, technically, I'm only partly aspiring. The novel revolves around a charismatic young woman named Molly O’Dwyer. Molly was five years old when she witnessed her mother die in a fire. She never knew her father. After her mother’s death, she was raised on the campus of a Jesuit college. Now an archaeologist, she has been recruited to participate on a dig in war torn Iraq. As a scientist she is compelled to discover whatever or whoever is buried under the sands of ancient Babylon. As an observant Catholic, she is scared that whatever she finds will have devastating consequences for her faith. There is a wonderful YouTube book trailer well worth watching if you have the chance. If you do get to see, please let me know what you think. Thanks. Peter

Whoa, I totally missed your note. I did read Chanda's Secrets but long before Shelfari. But I have Chanda's War on my shelf. I think the author has some background in Africa, can't remember what. The books read authentically to me at least.

Thanks for pointing out Dewey. They've made so many changes I haven't been paying much attention. Just trying to get all my old book journal titles transferred in!

Do you know of "Kami and the Yaks" by Andrea Stenn Stryer? I first heard about it today at the Newbery/Caldecott announcements. It won the Schneider Family Book Award.
