Aspiring librarian, currently at home mom, and foster mom. I used to work as a page at the local library system, but no time for that right now. I am still a one-woman library outreach worker- bringing books to those who need them!

Ooh, I missed your post. I've listened to "An Abundance of Katherines" and "Will Grayson Will Grayson." I couldn't really get into Katherines, but the Will Grayson presentation was quite entertaining (although I found the scene where gay Will presents his big musical a bit long). In my professional readings, teen librarians love John Green but personally I'm just not that into his stuff.

Interesting because you bring your fostering experience to the reading. The caseworker IS a little harsh! Sometimes you hear about foster parents who aren't as assiduous as you are and that's what I found intriguing about the story, the mother who really shouldn't be fostering anymore but in her own way was dedicated to doing what she could.

Check out "Shifty" by Lynn Hazen, a YA novel about a boy who's been in foster care and group homes all his life. You might like.

I thought "What Shall I Make" was very charming. I may have to do a food-themed storytime featuring foods the kids might not be familiar with!

I haven't read it all yet. It's like it was written for me. It has all the elements that make it perfect for me! I might go read some right now.....

I read Raton Perez to the K-1 crowd. They got into it especially since many of them are enrolled in the bilingual program and recognized the Spanish words and even who Raton Perez is.

Look out for the new "Mixed: Portraits of Multiracial Kids" by Kip Fulbeck. Your boys will appreciate as will you! Waiting for my hold...

Just finished the audio of "Heist Society." I reviewed it as an Ocean's 11 for teens. Your boys might enjoy...

Looks like only KCLS has "What Shall I Make." I've got it on hold.

I'll be sharing Raton Perez for Summer Reading. The only issue I have with it is that the tooth fairy is so blondie American.

Thanks for the Raton Perez recommendation! I think I'll read it to the K-1st graders for my Summer Reading promo. They're part of the new bilingual program at our branch's school so this would be appropriate!

Hey, I just read An Unexpected Light by Jason Elliot and since we're both interested in Asian literature thought I'd recommend it. It's the best book I've read in a long time.

Hey, I saw you reviewed "The Photographer." Is it amazing or what!? Sadly, I felt like a typical fat, lazy American reading it.

haven't read any of the books on your shelf currently but then, i haven't been reading any books for many years. i spend so much time either doing a whole bunch of stuff all the time with so many people, places, events or else i find myself in isolation but surrounded with my thoughts, time to read, but prefer to think. only since last month have i made the combined effort to both be social (mostly on facebook and email) as well as contemplative (early mornings and late nights) and also, read multiple books as I used to in my book-reading days of old. so that's how come "i'm reading" has several titles on my shelf... bye for now, and happy reading Michele...

I'm not sure why you thought of me in conjunction with babysitters either, but I put the book on hold just to scan it!

Hoping to enjoy "Shelf Discoveries" during furlough week in the San Juans...

"Nice waiting room," thought Doctor Ted. LOL! Will have to try this for preschool storytime if the group is right (there are always subtle changes with the new school year). Halloween heads-up: Goodnight Goon. I shared this during Summer Reading visits and the kids loved it. I believe the follow-up is Runaway Mummy (???).

    Hey Thukpa,
I hope you enjoy the book. I'm waiting on it to come into my library also. I've yet to read it. Let me know what you think and I'll do the same. I really think we'll both like it.
