Let me start by saying that I'm not an easy man to please when it comes to books. I'm picky and opinionated, so when I find writers or authors that I truly like I am loyal to the end. I was first introduced to this writing duo of Betty Dravis and Chase Von when I bought the book Dream Reachers.

I am so glad I did! A truly intriguing and encouraging group of interviews and stories of people reaching for their dreams. So when Dream Reachers II came out my expectations were pretty high. To my pleasant amazement I ended up loving Dream Reachers II more than it's predecessor.

Both authors have stepped up their game and delve into the lives of such an eclectic group of dreamers. I found myself truly inspired. From a website owner obsessed with Al Pacino to best selling authors, directors, actors and actresses this book has everything.

I have to admit that my favorite interview was with singer/actress Alexa Dectis. Here is someone who has overcome Spinal Muscular Atrophy and has risen above what most people would use as an excuse to fail in life.
I quote Alexa Dectis: "God did not put me in this chair because he wanted me to be sad. Before I was born, God helped me choose my life. This was the life I chose with God."

This is just a taste of the insight and encouragement that Dream Reachers II brings to the table. Betty Dravis and Chase Von know how to bring out inspirational stories from the people who are reaching for their dreams and living them! This is a true collector's book--a MUST in every library!

I rate this book 5 of 5 stars!

    The Stormcaller

by Jacob L. Grant, Mark T. Russell
    • Rated 4 stars

The Stormcaller: The path of the fallen is a war of the heart. On the Isle of Türmak, a power-hungry necromancer longs to resurrect the unholy spirit of the Dragon. At his side is a legendary swordsman named Legion, who has single-handedly crippled the kingdom of Freeport from defending itself against the necromancer¿s plot. Then Andrea, a young slave who has magical powers beyond human comprehension, finds her way to Freeport and the tides of war begin to change. But is her faith in her abilities strong enough to stop even Legion? With surprising twists and imaginative medieval battles, The Stormcaller is an illustrative tale of redemption from the pits of the darkest kind of evil.

For the fantasy lover this story will cover it all. There are epic battles and supernatural powers at work, a classic good vs evil, heroes and heroines, dark antagonists and demonic creatures. All of these and more encompass the 400+ pages of The Stormcaller. Needless to say it took me a little while to finish reading. I couldn't help but get emotionally attached at the beginning of the book as the authors follow Andrea bound to a life of slavery hidden under the guise of indentured servitude rising to the heroine that is destined to save the land of Freeport from The Dragon. They did a fantastic job of getting me hooked but then they pulled a twist on me.

Just an FYI, this story is not mainly about Andrea The Stormcaller but also about Legion, the legendary swordsman and his quest for revenge gone awry. I was a bit torn with this because I really was hoping to stay more on Andrea's development and understanding of her special gift of calling the powers of nature to her will. But in the middle to end of the book the story is more about Legion which in itself is a very interesting story. I needed to shift gears mentally as the authors delved into Legions emotional state at the loss of his younger sister years ago. His quest for vengeance takes a very unexpected turn when he happens to bump into and saving Andrea who reminds him of his dead sister. This is the turning point in this character's development that I couldn't help but be reminded of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi with Darth Vadar turning back to the good side. The inner conflict and decisions that Legion is faced with made me connect with him and want to smack him a little. =)

The story of The Stormcaller is really about these two characters Andrea and Legion, a story well worth reading. This is the first story in what is scheduled to be a three part series so far. The Christian themes of redemption and God's calling on our lives shines through brightly. The Stormcaller is a great start to a fantastic world filled with possibilities and adventures! I look forward to books 2 & 3. Get writing gentlemen!

I recommend this story strongly and give it a 4 out of 5 star rating.

  • Dream Reachers
    • Rated 5 stars

I purchased Dream Reachers out of pure curiosity. The simplicity of the book made me curious so I ordered it from Amazon not really knowing what I was going to be in for. Without further setup, here is my review...

Dream Reachers by Chase Von and Betty Dravis is an interview collection of artists ranging from writers and actors to poets and musicians. I especially enjoyed the behind the scenes stories at the beginning of the book documenting some of the big stars that Betty Dravis had interviewed.

Dream Reachers is an eclectic combination of interviews filled with talented people who know what it means to persevere over life's difficulties. If you enjoy peeking into the lives of people who are making their dreams come true then this is the book for you. I personally enjoy gleaming wisdom off of folks who have worked hard and the journey that they've gone through to get where they are. There is something for everyone in this book and a great gift for the entertainment junkie. I found Dream Reachers to be inspiring and entertaining. I've heard there will be a sequel and look forward to buying it. Dream Reachers is voyeurism at it's finest.

I give this book a 5 of 5 star rating.

Lynnette Bonner's novel 'Rocky Mountain Oasis' brings the old west to life. This author's use of colorful detail to description transports the reader so vividly that you can practically taste the dust and smell the leather coming off the page.

    A Love for Eternity

    • Rated 5 stars

Janice K. Braswell, although a new author, has plucked the romance strings like a seasoned artist. From page one you can't help but be sucked into the main character Jayden Arman's world. Janice's use of detail and imagery are used tastefully without overkill. A great story is what you will get with 'A Love for Eternity'!!!
