I enjoy all sorts of books (except most romances and westerns).

I enjoyed the book. There was an attempt by the author to respectfully describe the culture. Interesting love story with some history thrown in.

I loved the cartoons! Whoever did this really understands cats! The pull out poster was also good.

The book is published on high quality heavy paper and feels good in the hands. The pages are not glossy.

  • Sake: Water from Heaven
    • Rated 2 stars

Rocky Aoki (RIP), the author, is the founder of the Benihana restaurant chain. He has written an excellent book about sake (in Jtranliteraled Japanese "e" is pronunced like a long "a") . This book explains quite well how sake is made and the different types of sake. The book is well illustrated and even includes a comic book primer on sake.

Included in this book is a section on the differnt kinds of sake one can urchase in the US. Each brand of sake is illustrated by a photo of the bottle (quite handy for the non-Japanese readerA) along with a descriotion of the tyoe of sake, its origin, alcohol content, acidity, preferred servig temperatue, bottle size and averuage price. A short description of the taste and complementary foods the sake goes well with is also provided.

The author has also included a section on sake cocktail recipes complete with illustrations.!

The quality of the paperback is very good. The cover is very thick and of high quality. The cover is folder under for a built in bookmark.

Sake: Water from Heaven is a fine book.

  • The Art of Cooking with Vegetables
    • Rated 5 stars

A marriage of cooking with vegetables and the art of collage.

The cover page is a collage of one of the author's recipes. Each recipe is illustrated by a collage that has been put together by the chef.

Thank you, Alain Passard for your wonderful book that celebrates vegetables.
