Melissa

Hi, I'm Melissa. You can usually find me poking around the YA section of Borders, you'd probably just mistake me for one of the 15 year olds lol But in fact, I am an ALA Card carrying Librarian working with K-5 students. I have a soft spot for YA Lit, fairy tale retellings (especially versions where the Princess kicks butt, and fractured fairy... more »

HAHAHAHA! Dont feel bad. Beginners luck is a myth. :P Heavenly Ham? I wasnt aware of any ham. Shrimp, but not ham. Well, as I type this I'm up in Cape Vincent, in the 1000 Islands. So I wont see you for about a week. And no problem, after I went to my grandmas it doesnt bother me much, only when my mom started feeling up Jeff. :P The summer reading is The Pearl - John Steinbeck, Animal Farm-Orson Wells?, and Fahrenheit 451-?.

This is my third BEA and I brought back about 20 books which is about average for me. It seemed like the publishers didn't bring as much as they have in the past. My friends and I both got shut out of some of the books we were waiting in lines for.
I'm glad it is in NY for the next few years!!!

Thanks for the update, Melissa. The only day I could have gone was Saturday, so now I don't feel so bad about missing it since the YA pickings were slim.

    Hey Melissa,
I just saw some of your tags that you were at BEA as well. What books did you come away with? I didn't even see Troy High. I picked up Along for the Ride, too.

Oh, ok. Haha, I miss picture books.... good times.... Hahaha, I could just imagine you, looking up at the Middleschool "Maybe someday.....someday" Whattya mean, more technology? SMART boards and stuff? And that ok, you don't have to let up ;) I've really enjoyed reading them, thankyou :) And I was only asking because I just picked up about 10 from my grandpa's house. I guess my grandma really liked him. He seems like a pretty good writer, even sticks in goofy things every once in a while. And ugh, you and Taylor with the classics. Gosh! They barely speak english in those books!

Hahahahaha, thats a good tactic. They might even read them, too. ;) Oh, sorry Junie! W/E!!!! :) Its not like a read them or anything....
And yes, I know who got me started on Star Wars books. You're never gonna let that go, are ya? ;) So, this librarian is kinda like a Mrs. Scalzo, but older and more out-of-touch? I never read in elem school, towards the end maybe. I'm sorry if I upset you when I called Judy, Juliett. Whoops, look at that. Again, o well. ;) and you didnt answer my question, do you like James Patterson? Or is he too adult for ya? :) kidding, kidding, I kid, I kid.

Hahaha, I know you do Miss Judy B. Jones. :) Who's complaining, the Admins? They should do something about it then. Haha, if there's anyone who can legally work in a library and can reccommend book as well as you, point 'em out. ;) On another note, have you ever read anything by James Patterson?

Oh, ok. Thats interesting, I wish our highschool library was like that. Unfortunately, Mrs. Stephens is always complaining that her budget gets stretched too far, between buying Accelerated Reader tests, books, magazine subs, etc. But theyre having a cool competition this month to celebrabe national library week, which is to read the most books in the month of April. The reward is a $25 gift card to Borders, which is pretty cool. They also had a book swap this past week, which was fun. Anyway, I cant remember if I lent you Airman to read or not, did you read it?

Haha, thanks. Aremis Fowl, huh? Eoin Colfer is a pretty good author, I liked his Airman book. Oh, we have our reading team competition on Monday. I dont know how much im actually looking foward to it, I liked 3 books on the list, out of 40. But, I have been reading some other books besides that, mostly Michael Crichton. Jurassic Park, Andromeda Strain, and I just bought Prey. So, when's your birthday? 27, wow. So, do you get a new order of 100-odd books every year?

Sounds good. Well, if your not here yet, safe driving. If your here, hope you had a good trip. We just finished "preliminaries" for the Reading Team. We had to read and journal 5 books to make the team. I really don't like the books.... they're either horribly written, or their classics. Blah! Anyway, were gonna have 2 teams for the Sr high, but their might not even be a team for the Jr high, there like 2 ppl short. They had all the good books too.... Ive actually already read most of the jr high list.....sad. OH well, mayb next year. TTYL.

I know the feeling - I'm still in my sweats. The kids are starting to come in for pleasure reading books. There was literally no fiction before I started so I've really been adding to the collection. We don't have AR. I think librarians either love it or hate it but I've never been in a school that has it.
My friend works in two buildings also. I give you both a lot of credit. I don't think I could do it. Do you have any recommendations? I'm almost done with Twilight.

Hey Melissa, how is it in the elementary school. I love pictures books but hate having to teach a fixed schedule. I'm trying to upgrade my YA reading. I just finished Hero Type by Barry Lyga. Not as good as his other two but definitely worth picking up.

It was pretty good...have you read the entire trilogy? It isn't my favorite (yet) compared to things like *cough* Twilight or Harry Potter, but I definitely want to keep reading. :)
