“I love history - the good - the bad, and the ugly. Perhaps the reason why I love history so much is because of its purpose. The purpose is to teach future generations to better themselves in light of the ugliness previous generations have managed to leave us. In this book the message is very clear. Although its a novel, it is based on historical facts. Many people are unaware - even those who are native Oklahoman's - that the worst race riots - the most awful systematic destruction of the black community happened in Tulsa, Oklahoma less than 100 years ago. Personally, I have relatives who participated in the killing and burning of an entire community. These relatives would brag about their atrocious acts over the dinner table at family reunions and holiday events. Thankfully, these relatives are dead and gone and hopefully, burning in hell today for what they did in the 1920's. Not only was this just a weekend event, the entire Tulsa county and city attributed to this event when new laws were passed immediately after the riots mandating that business which had been burned were banned from ever rebuilding in Greenwood and within the city limits of Tulsa. Again, the ugly side of history and God help us if we have not learned from this. ”
