how wonderful to be part of this community
as nothing delights me more than meeting people who share my passion for words

one of my happiest childhood memories is certainly the day my father taught me how to use that mysterious book that seemed to have all the answers: the dictionary
i spent endless hours reading one definition after another
a few years later
more than anything else in the world
reading fiction had become the centre of my life
and in retrospect
registering the books that i had read
is perhaps symbolic of my obsession for lists and order
though i might just be carrying out flaubert's advice to
"Be regular and orderly in your life so that you may be violent and original in your work."

inexplicably, i gave up that list long ago
more reasons for me to be so thrilled to have found shelfari
and start all over again
i do think there is truth in "you are what you read"
and as i gradually update my shelf with new and forgotten titles
i'll have become as easy to read as an open book
