“I’ve been debating on whether to write a review. The premise of the book was good, but that’s the only thing I found interesting. I’ve read the other reviews & wonder if we read the same book. I honestly thought this was an awful book. First of all the author is so predictable. It was very easy for me to figure out who the younger of the men would turn out to be. She never gave the last name of the younger man mentioned. I understand why, because she would have to have made a connection sooner. I don’t know about anyone else but when I hear a familiar name I think of people with that same name. Her cousin goes from being outgoing while she is overweight to being very passive after the weight is gone. That is so the opposite of what really happens. I myself was extremely overweight at one time and so were a lot my friends and associates. In each instance we all gained more self-confidence. For a woman that overcame so much in her own opinion she was not very smart. Her niece and nephew had a better clutch on reality than she did. I’ve never started a book and not finished it before but this one really put me to the test. I thought maybe this would be one of those where the end justifies the means, so not so. The ending was the most disappointing part of this book. It has no ending the author just stops writing. I know this type of ending has worked for other authors (Margaret Mitchell “Gone with the Wind”) but she does not have the skill to pull it off. It leaves one wondering if there will be a sequel, but goodness I hope not. The only way a sequel can improve this book is to borrow a page from that old TV show “Dallas,” it was all just a bad dream. Then write the story about her cousin but with the same sprit she had at the beginning of the book.”
