  • Remember Me?
    • Rated 4 stars

Lexi's plight sucked me right in. She felt like a friend. While I found myself wishing at times the story was shorter, I could not let go until I too uncovered her past and subsequently her future.

  • Halo
    • Rated 4 stars

Some books snap, crackle, and pop. Some books sizzle or shimmer. Some books stroll. They refuse to rush. The would rather you slow down taste, see, and feel. They resemble lazy Sunday afternoons. They prefer to marinate, stew, and build flavor. I can't promise Halo is the book for you. I can only promise you should try it when you are ready to savor a slowly simmered tale.

  • Across the Universe
    • Rated 5 stars

My summary: Godspeed (the ship of the future) is full of lies. In an effort to preserve human sanity, one man has become the keeper of the truth and therefore history. But one girl, released early from her icy slumber, is about to inadvertently change the course of the future by unleashing truth and discord.

My thoughts: Across the Universe is an exciting, enticing, and exhilarating ride. One full of mystery, tantalizing factors, and historical rewrites that will keep you guessing. I dare you to read this and not hang on until the very end! How else will you find out why the people aboard Godspeed believe Hitler was a good leader and love and emotion are a thing of the past?

  • The Sweet by and by
    • Rated 3 stars

The Sweet By and By failed to charm me. While I enjoyed the story style (alternating perspectives from Jade to her mother Beryl) this story about communication (or the lack of) and forgiveness never inched its way into my heart. Much like the wounded bird Jade is compared to, it struggled to fly. I am however curious to see how Jade evolves in part two Softly and Tenderly due out this January. Maybe I will try book two in audio.

  • Love in a Headscarf
    • Rated 4 stars

Have you ever wondered what it must be like for a modern day Muslim? Have you ever pondered or been fascinated with the process of arranged marriages? Well then you have to read this book. Love in a Headscarf is witty, charming, and often comical. It is the real life story of a British Muslim gal looking for her Mr. Right. I smiled and smiled through Shelina's journey to find love and a balance between her culture and her faith. By the end of the book, she will feel like your friend and you will be so proud of what you've learned about her faith, her choice to wear a hijab, and her views on love coming after "I do".

  • The Snow Globe
    • Rated 3 stars

This one was like roasted marshmallows; sweet, light, and delicious but lacking in depth and volume. If the story was longer and more fleshed out, I think I would have enjoyed it more.

  • An Amish Christmas: A Novel
    • Rated 4 stars

This story sucked me in rather quickly. I felt for Meg. One day she was a happy suburban mom the next day she has to sell everything and head for the hills with her screaming teenagers, frightened 9 year-old, and the man who brought ruin on them with his lies.

This story is SO different from the average Amish tale. It is about being stripped down to nothing and seeing that your family and your life still have value. It reminded me that sometimes really beautiful things can come out of life's tragedies.

  • A Simple Christmas

    A Simple Christmas

    by Mike Huckabee
    • Rated 3 stars

12 Christmases & 12 lessons on patience, sacrifice, loneliness, family, traditions, crisis, hope, stability, limitations, transitions, faith, and rewards.

A Simple Christmas is a slowly simmered memoir. Huckabee takes the reader back in time to share the lessons he has learned along the way about the true meaning of Christmas. Some chapters were slow but some chapters moved me to tears.

  • Mrs. Miracle
    • Rated 4 stars

Call Me Mrs. Miracle was so precious, I was tickled pink to go back in time and visit Mrs. Miracle's debut. Mrs. Miracle is a little heavier but it is still loads of fun.

What I liked: All the heavenly magic.

What I didn't like: Not enough Mrs. Miracle! Call Me Mrs. Miracle gives us more time with the darling angel than this one. A bit more heart break in this one.

  • Grace
    • Rated 5 stars

Grace is a wonderful holiday tale about opening your heart and home to those God sends your way. It is full of lessons on grace and forgiveness. Plus, it features a sweet modern day Joseph and Mary.
