  • The Passion of Jesus Christ : fifty reasons why He came to die
    • Rated 4 stars

The Passion of Jesus Christ is not a lengthy book but after diving into it I began to realize that it is a meal best consumed slowly and thoughtfully.

If you are like me, you grew up hearing that Jesus came to suffer and die for our sins "so that we can go to heaven."

While that is not untrue, it is only only one facet of a great deal more truth about what Christ's death accomplished in His eternal plan for mankind. Piper lays out these truths with care, showcasing a feast of blessings that have been provided to us.

The layout of the book lends itself well to a devotional style, with each one of the fifty reasons comprising a two-page segment, beginning with a verse or two and then launching into Piper's explanation.

If you've never thought about how Christ's death relates to areas such as racism, the meaning of marriage, or the futility of our ancestry then I would encourage you to pick this book up and give it a try. Chew slowly.

Very good handling of the history of both movements. Very well worth the time to read.
